The Lamb that was Slain

In the Old Testament, we see the Passover feast was supposed to be lamb (mutton).

Exod 12:1; And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,
Exod 12:2; This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.
Exod 12:3; Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
Exod 12:4; And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.
Exod 12:5; Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:
Exod 12:6; And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.
Exod 12:7; And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.
Exod 12:8; And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.
Exod 12:9; Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof.
Exod 12:10; And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.
Exod 12:11; And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD'S passover.

I find it interesting that Jesus is also called the lamb.
John 1:29; The next day he *saw Jesus coming to him and *said, "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
1 Pet 1:19; but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.
Rev 5:12; saying with a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing."
(many other verses also)

I can't help but wonder if there is a correlation with the Lord's supper (communion). What do you think?
John 6:53; So Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves.
John 6:54; "He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.
John 6:55; "For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink.
John 6:56; "He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.

1 Cor 11:24; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me."
1 Cor 11:25; In the same way He took the cup also after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me."
1 Cor 11:26; For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes.
1 Cor 11:27; Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord.
1 Cor 11:28; But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup.
1 Cor 11:29; For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly.

Nice! Thanks BAC...I think it should be recognized that when one eats unworthily that unworthily is an adjective which qualifies the eating and drinking not the eater/drinker....eating or drinking "unworthily" (according to the text) is not discerning the body of the Lord in the breaking of the bread.

I have often wondered about the different cups Jesus mentions at the last supper. I didn't see a lot about this in the old testament.
(Maybe I just missed it)
But I did find some things on a few Jewish websites. What is the significance of the four cups of wine?

No doubt at all in my mind that there's a link. If you read Matthews account, Jesus changes the passover meal so that he becomes central to it. And there is no mention of lamb besides the herbs the bread and wine.

Did they have a passover meal with no lamb on the table - Jesus in effect saying 'I am the passover lamb'? Can't know for sure, but it seems to fit.
