Jesus was often referred to as the lamb, why is this? What is the significance of a lamb? Why was he not called any other animal?

Thanks

Well I'm not a bible scholar, but I believe seeing that Jesus came as the ultimate sacrifice for sin. In the old testament times sacrifice of lambs was to provide atonement for sins.

“Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29),

So it's it's easy to see him as a lamb, not as a animal but the symbol in which the lamb represented for those in the old testament.

Atonement - # Amends or reparation made for an injury or wrong; expiation.

#Reconciliation or an instance of reconciliation between God and humans.

He is the lion and the lamb.

Acts 8.32
32 The eunuch was reading this passage of Scripture:
"He was led like a sheep to the slaughter,
and as a lamb before the shearer is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.
33 In his humiliation he was deprived of justice.
Who can speak of his descendants?
For his life was taken from the earth."

He is as strong as a lion but gentle as a lamb.

Revelation 5
The Lion Is a Lamb
1-2I saw a scroll in the right hand of the One Seated on the Throne. It was written on both sides, fastened with seven seals. I also saw a powerful Angel, calling out in a voice like thunder, "Is there anyone who can open the scroll, who can break its seals?"

3There was no one—no one in Heaven, no one on earth, no one from the underworld—able to break open the scroll and read it.

4-5I wept and wept and wept that no one was found able to open the scroll, able to read it. One of the Elders said, "Don't weep. Look—the Lion from Tribe Judah, the Root of David's Tree, has conquered. He can open the scroll, can rip through the seven seals."

You can read all of revelation 5 and it tells you some more.

God bless  :rainbow: :rose:

Abraham & Isaac, and the Lamb of God

There is also the story in Genesis of Abraham and Isaac. (I think it's Genesis 4 but I may have my chapters confused).

Many people have noted the parallels between God asking Abraham to sacrifice his only son as a burnt offering and the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross for our sins.

In the former story, God provides a ram (male sheep - a bit old to be called a lamb but still a sheep) to replace Isaac, which was offered faithfully to God by Abraham.

In the latter story, Jesus (also given to us by God) is the Lamb to be sacrificed for all our sins.

I have also seen scholarly works that argued that the same mountain where Abraham offered Isaac would (a thousand years later) be the place where Jesus was crucified, but I'm not certain if this has been proven or not.
