If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. Romans 10:9-10 ESV
Confession means to acknowledge or declare a truth publicly. No one can see into another’s heart; the heart must make itself known.
In the Bible, the heart is the core of your being, the place from which all your words and actions come: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” (Proverbs 4:23). Jesus plainly said, “What you say flows from what is in your heart” (Luke 6:45). Today’s passage isn’t describing a two-step process but rather the natural progression of faith—if you believe in your heart that Jesus is the risen Savior then your mouth must declare His sovereignty. That kind of truth cannot be kept inside!
But the reverse isn’t possible. Without the conviction of the heart, no amount of words will matter. God rebuked this type of empty religion: “These people say they are mine. They honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me” (Isaiah 29:13).
Once the heart believes, the mouth overflows, and the hands and feet will follow!
Prayer: Risen Savior, I declare today and every day that You are Lord! Let me walk in Your ways!
