Then Mordecai told them to reply to Esther, "Do not think to yourself that in the king's palace you will escape any more than all the other Jews. For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father's house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?" Esther 4:13-14 ESV

Few stories in the Bible compare to that of Esther for intrigue and excitement. Born during the Babylonian exile, the beautiful cousin of Mordecai is brought into the king Ahasuerus’s palace, where she finds favor and is made queen. Later, when Mordecai refuses to bow before the king’s top adviser, Haman plots to kill all the Jews in the Persian Empire in retaliation. But neither Haman nor the king is aware that the new queen is a Jew! The moment of truth comes: Will Esther risk her life to save her people? Will Ahasuerus support her once he’s discovered her secret?

You may not face a life and death situation life Esther, but you will have opportunities to stand for God in the face of personal risks. He won’t force you to step up—He’ll work His plan with or without you. But He invites you to be His instrument “for such a time as this”—whenever that time may be.

Prayer: Father, open my eyes and strengthen me to stand ready when the time comes!
