The man answered, "Why, this is an amazing thing! You do not know where he comes from, and yet he opened my eyes. We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does his will, God listens to him. Never since the world began has it been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind. If this man were not from God, he could do nothing." John 9:30-33 ESV

The man with restored sight was right: The Hebrew scriptures never talk about any man born blind. The Christian scriptures don’t mention this particular man’s name, but tradition says his name was Celidonius.

Readers of John 9:13-34 (today’s New Testament reading) can’t help noticing this formerly blind man’s amazing transformation before the Pharisees assembled to judge this man and his healer.

In verse 17 (NIV) the formerly blind man says of Jesus, “He is a prophet.”

In verse 25 (NIV) the man rebuts their claim that Jesus is a sinner. Then he adds, “One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!”

In verse 27 (NIV) he taunts them, saying, “Do you want to become his disciples too?”

Finally, in the key verses quoted above, this man describes Jesus as godly, not a sinner. Not only that, but he goes on to say Jesus obviously has come from God and therefore can work unprecedented, God-honoring miracles.

So who do you say Jesus is?

Prayer: Triune God, thank You so much for sending Your only Son, Jesus. May I be His faithful disciple too.

Dear Rookster,
I can't take credit for these devotionals I post.
I retype them from a book that was compiled from a variety of individuals. Sadly, none of the individual devotionals are identified by who wrote them :( so I can't give the credit where credit is due, but I can say it was not me!

However, I will agree with you that they are well written :)

With the Love of Christ Jesus.
