Blessed (happy, [a]to be envied) is the man who reads aloud [in the assemblies] the word of this prophecy; and blessed (happy, to be envied) are those who hear [it read] and who keep themselves true to the things which are written in it [heeding them and laying them to heart], for the time [for them to be fulfilled] is near. Revelation 1:3 AMPC

Shaken people don’t want to admit their sin, and they certainly don’t want to talk about truths that frighten them. Yet what might cause fear in the book of Revelation should instill a sense of hope instead. Unshaken people recognize the difference between fear and hope, and it changes their response.

Revelation describes the chaos and pain of earth’s last days. When earth is the only home you’ve known, thinking it will come to an end can be frightening. The easiest choice is to avoid the subject altogether. But right at the beginning of the book, you are told that’s a bad idea.

If you take a step further, you learn that those who hear the story will be blessed. One more step? Those who set themselves apart to be faithful to God’s final story will be blessed.

Prayer: Father, the best part of Your final story is not that this current world will pass away , but that a new life in Your presence will begin. This final story is a blessing to those who read it, hear it, and pay attention to what ultimately is great news.
