The Bible does not say this.

There is nowhere in the Bible that says anything about carnal Christians. Yet this is a doctrine that started several decades ago and is taught as truth just like evolution in our schools. What verses back this up?

Never heard of such a thing! Wouldn't that be a conflict in terms? Having said that, there are probably many "so called" Christians who are not because they are still carnal!

It is a doctrine that has been being taught. I have actually heard it more in Baptist churches than anywhere else. I agree with you. It is a false doctrine.

Romans 7.

Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful. For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.
What is the doctrine of carnal christians?

The doctrine goes along with I can live in sin and go to heaven. I am just a carnal christian. That is a false teaching.

There is no such thing as carnal Christianity in the same way there is no such thing as gay Christianity or catholic Christianity

For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
Romans 8:5-7

There's an endless variety of doctrines out there. It's most best, fruitful and simple to stick with the single book of Truth. God's Word. Anything beyond this is an insult to GOD and a way of saying the Bible is insufficient.

Very true Chad. However though these doctrines are coming out as a twisting of scripture.

Beware of the half truth, half lies. The truth is to make you believe and buy into the lie that comes after.

Now, with all that said, the scriptures do state:

1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, [even] as unto babes in Christ. 2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able [to bear it], neither yet now are ye able. 3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas [there is] among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? - 1 Corinthians 3

Paul compares being an infant in Christ with being carnal, or in the flesh. This truth, which is found in the scriptures, is abused by many to tell goats that they are in fact sheep. Goats are not sheep.

It's kind of like OSAS (once saved always saved). That is a mainly an American doctrine that uses proof texts to tell people that because they verbalized a prayer on a certain date and recorded it in their bible, that somehow that makes a magic contract that the Lord cannot break and thus, you are eternally saved because you made a mere confession with your mouth one time, but were never truly changed in your heart, born again. Many who "pray a prayer" truly are born again, not even necessarily at that moment, but later, or perhaps even before. But just repeating the words of some 'evangelist' when you are in an emotionally charged state does not make you a Christian, nor does it make you "once saved, always saved."

Blessings,

Travis

I would not compare carnality and homosexuality (sin) with being Roman Catholic. The Roman Catholic's are just as much Christian as the Eastern Orthodox, and the Anglicans, and The Episcopalians, and the Pentecostals, and the Lutherans, etc etc.

I was just using examples but will also add that to me Christianity is Jesus and what we are in Him.

Therefore there is also no such thing as Anglican Christianity, Orthodox Christianity, Lutheran Christianity etc etc either.

Christianity is non denominational
Christianity is about Christ

Carnal Christians is a polite way of telling someone in church that they are in fact not carrying on at all like a Christian.

Can we presume to know who is ultimately saved and who is not? If someone has heard the gospel / sat under the same teaching yet believes like the unsaved in many areas. Can we say they are unsaved? No. We say they are carnal Christians.

Consider James 1:6-8 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. 7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. 8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Is James talking to someone who is sold out to Jesus? We know from verse 1 that he is talking to Christians. But what Christian who has truly dedicated their entire lives to Jesus will be ''double minded / unstable in all their ways / will not receive anything from the Lord????''. James is making these statements off of wavering faith. But I like to look at it in reverse to make the statement that a true Christian cannot have wavering faith because he will never be double minded, unstable in all his ways if he has committed his life to Jesus. Unless of course, he has not. Carnal Christian :whistle.

Yes, this is the kind of teaching that the original post was focused on.

First of all what is a carnal Christian in your thinking ?
A carnal christian is just another name for a christian who is still thinking with his owen underrstanding or as he or she was before they were saved.
It is just that simple.

Just a christian who is still thinking like a normal man or one in the world but are saved...Not operating in His ways or by faith.
