The battle for your soul

Whether we know it or not, we are in a battle for our souls. Eph 6:12; says we are in a struggle against the powers of darkness.
Paul exhorts Timothy to fight the good fight.

1 Tim 1:18; This command I entrust to you, Timothy, my son, in accordance with the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you fight the good fight,
1 Tim 1:19; keeping faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and suffered shipwreck in regard to their faith.

1 Tim 6:12; Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
1 Tim 6:13; I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who testified the good confession before Pontius Pilate,
1 Tim 6:14; that you keep the commandment without stain or reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Paul tells Timothy that he himself has already fought the fight.

2 Tim 4:7; I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith;
2 Tim 4:8; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing.

Our faith will be tested.

Heb 11:17; By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was offering up his only begotten son;

1 Pet 1:7; so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

1 Thes 3:4; For indeed when we were with you, we kept telling you in advance that we were going to suffer affliction; and so it came to pass, as you know.
1 Thes 3:5; For this reason, when I could endure it no longer, I also sent to find out about your faith, for fear that the tempter might have tempted you, and our labor would be in vain.
1 Thes 3:6; But now that Timothy has come to us from you, and has brought us good news of your faith and love, and that you always think kindly of us, longing to see us just as we also long to see you,

This struggle is sometimes compared to a race.

1 Cor 9:23; I do all things for the sake of the gospel, so that I may become a fellow partaker of it.
1 Cor 9:24; Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.
1 Cor 9:25; Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.
1 Cor 9:26; Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air;
1 Cor 9:27; but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.

Heb 12:1; Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
Heb 12:2; fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Heb 12:3; For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
Heb 12:4; You have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood in your striving against sin;

Not that everyone will have to resist to the point of shedding blood, but we will have to "strive against sin". We have to resist the devil.

1 Pet 5:8; Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
1 Pet 5:9; But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world.

Jas 4:7; Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Eph 6:13; Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.

Many Christians might believe that "battle for the soul" means a fight over whether the soul goes to Heaven or Hell based on a persons acceptance or rejection of the Gospel, or a person's performance or goodness as a saved believer. But this post, is really about the battle for the soul of the saved Christian. Satan is not trying to drag saved believers into Hell, he knows they are already saved and will go to Heaven. Actually the battle is for our will (to do the Father's will), our emotions (feelings) (to love God), and our mind (thoughts) (to know God), which comprise the human soul, and that is who we are. In other words, the battle is not over a place that we go to, but the type of person that we are. It is his goal to stop the gospel and prevail against the church.

True,

Satan doesn't have to fight for the un-saved. They already belong to him.

Php 3:10; that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death;
Php 3:11; in order that I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.
Php 3:12; Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.
Php 3:13; Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead,
Php 3:14; I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
