The couriers went out, hastened by the king's command; and the decree was proclaimed in Shushan the citadel. So the king and Haman sat down to drink, but the city of Shushan was perplexed. Ester 3:15 NKJV
Flag Day is a visible representation of the American spirit. It invites people to remember the freedoms all Americans enjoy.
In a time when the Israelites were scattered, it was hard to celebrate their nations’ heritage. Most people couldn’t understand a reason to celebrate a country that had been overtaken.
Jealousy led a high-ranking official in King Ahasuerus’s kingdom to draft a rule subjecting the people of Israel to genocide. Haman considered the Jew Mordecai an enemy, so he persuaded the king to destroy all Jews. The king agreed. He didn’t realize his own queen was a Jew. Haman was happy to have the decision on the books. While Haman celebrated, anxiety spread like a disease among the Jews.
There’s always bad news to endure. It may seem small and only touch you. It might see large and touch most people you know.
Freedom seems to be slipping from your grasp, and the very thing you don’t want to experience is happening. Good news! You’re not defenseless. You’re not forsaken or forgotten, and you never need to forfeit your trust in God.
His banner over you reads “LOVED”. Endure a little longer—help is on the way.
Prayer: Lord, I don’t understand why some people celebrate the misery of others. But You don’t do that—and You never have. Help me endure while I wait for You.
