I have been wondering lately. We hear so much about Good Friday, and Easter Sunday, and these are important days to be sure.
Some churches even go so far as to celebrate Maundy-Thursday. (The is date usually considered as the "last supper").
But I wonder why we never hear of Saturday? Why only the first day and the third day. It seems to me this was the day Jesus did much of his work.
Eph 4:8; Therefore it says, "WHEN HE ASCENDED ON HIGH, HE LED CAPTIVE A HOST OF CAPTIVES, AND HE GAVE GIFTS TO MEN."
Eph 4:9; (Now this expression, "He ascended," what does it mean except that He also had descended into the lower parts of the earth?
Eph 4:10; He who descended is Himself also He who ascended far above all the heavens, so that He might fill all things.)
Col 2:15; When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.
Matt 28:18; And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
It seems Jesus didn't defeat death by proclaiming his power over it. He defeated it by submitting to it.
John 10:17; "For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life so that I may take it again.
John 10:18; "No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father."
Matt 26:52; Then Jesus *said to him, "Put your sword back into its place; for all those who take up the sword shall perish by the sword.
Matt 26:53; "Or do you think that I cannot appeal to My Father, and He will at once put at My disposal more than twelve legions of angels?
Matt 26:54; "How then will the Scriptures be fulfilled, which say that it must happen this way?"
If one angel could kill 185,000 people by himself. ( Isa 37:36; ) what kind of power would 12,000 angels have against a mob of a few dozen to possible a hundred people?
Jesus rose again, and that is an amazing thing. But for me, I think the greater miracle was that he died for me.
We see of the third day, God gave Abraham a ram. Gen 22:4;
On the third day God came to Mount Sinai. Exod 19:16;
On the third day, God healed King Hezekiah. 2 Kings 20:5;
On the third day, Esther stood before the King. Est 51;
Acts 10:40; "God raised Him up on the third day and granted that He become visible,
It seems so many times in the Bible, people prayed on the first day, and God answered them on the third day.
But what about the second day? A day of uncertainty and waiting. I think sometimes some of us are in our "second day" right now waiting for God to answer us.
But I also know... the third day is coming.
