We will not hide these truths from our children; we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the LORD, about his power and his mighty wonders. Psalm 78:4
When you think of the words “a calling from God for ministry,” your mind tends to focus on some kind of vocation such as preacher, missionary, or evangelist. But far more Christian men are called to a different kind of ministry, one that is arguably as important, maybe more so, than that of a preacher or teacher—fatherhood.
When God blesses you with children, He also gives you a set of profound responsibilities that comes with raising them. You must care for their physical needs (shelter, food, and clothing), their emotional needs (love and acceptance), and social needs (education and other basics). But He also tasks you with teaching your children to love and fear Him and to live and speak in ways that please Him.
This means imparting not just a belief that God exists, but a love for Him, for His written Word, and for spending time with Him in prayer.
As a father, you should never forget the importance of loving, disciplining, and correcting your children. But still more important is teaching them about the goodness and wonder of the God who loves them more than even you, as an earthly father, can comprehend.
