On that same day the LORD brought the Israelites out of the land of Egypt according to their military divisions. Exodus 12:51 CSB
Their spirits were weak, hope had diminished as nine plagues passed through Egypt and they were still slaves, and their thinking was erratic and prone to melancholy. Then came Passover. This would be the commemoration of the event that led to their deliverance.
Moses had stood before Pharaoh often, and there wasn’t a time when there was the feeling of visiting an old friend. The meetings were contentious, and Pharaoh had been mean-spirited.
With each passing plague, the instruction was more to the point and left a greater negative impact on the country. What most don’t think about is that both the Egyptians and the Israelites wrestled with uncertainty. Opinion could shift quickly on both sides, and yet God promised deliverance. The people’s doubts didn’t alter the promise.
By the time the people of Israel began their walk away from Egypt, they were in awe of God. The Egyptians also took note of this God who could defy Pharaoh and deliver the Israelites from slavery.
God shows up. Pay attention to what He does. Stand in awe of His power. He can bring you through whatever enslaves you.
Prayer: Praying attention to what You do is an important part of praise, God. Help me stand in awe of what You do in the midst of great opposition. May I never stand in Your way.
