He had arranged to leave Babylon on April 8, the first day of the new year, and he arrived at Jerusalem on August 4, for the gracious hand of his God was on him. This was because Ezra had determined to study and obey the Law of the LORD and to teach those decrees and regulations to the people of Israel. Ezra 7:9-10 NLT

Ezra was a priest—and a disciple who made disciples. He asked for God’s help in learning what He had asked His people to do. Ezra taught others. He wasn’t trying to become an expert in Bible trivia. He learned. He shared. God blessed him.

Ezra didn’t have a running total on how much time he spent in prayer or Bible study. His desire was knowing God more. Tracking time was less important than learning. Learning was less about pride than a relationship with God.

Wouldn’t it be great to have it said of you, “The gracious hand of God was upon_____. This is because_____ had determined to study and obey the law of the Lord and to teach those decrees and regulations”?

Most people fail to understand that walking with Jesus includes being a student. Many never accept that role so they never become teachers. They accept a lack of knowledge while society keeps looking for real answers that can be known—because God teaches.

Prayer: Father, help me study and then obey what I learn. Help me share what I know with those willing to listen. Give me a heart for You and an opportunity to share You every chance I get.
