Now in my prosperity I said, "I shall never be moved." LORD, by Your favor You have made my mountain stand strong; You hid Your face, [and] I was troubled. Psalm 30:6-7

King David knew how easily he could shift his gaze from trusting God toward the trouble God would need to rescue him from once again. Psalm 30 is a glimpse into the heart of a king who often fell into the error of thinking that his personal brownie points made God love him more than most. David kept forgetting he had a wayward heart. This thoughtless combination sometimes led to dark days, sin, and said psalms.

You can set yourself up for a similar dilemma. You can feel when things are going well that it means God is blessing and loves you. When things aren't going great you can think God is upset and withholding blessings.

Your personal level of pride and doubt often determines what God's response will be. When you crow like King David and say, "I've got it made. I'm God's favorite," you can expect Him to send a correspondence course on humility. That's because when you trust in yourself you'll find yourself doubting Him.

Prayer: Dear God, may I come to each moment in life knowing Your plan for me can be trusted and there is nothing I can add to it that will improve it. Help me to leave pride behind when I follow You.
