I was sent the following study today from Believer,com and thought you may enjoy reading it:-

Spiritual Begetting

'Man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of Jehovah doth man live' (Deuteronomy 8:3). Quoted in Matthew 4:4 and Luke 4:4, being the Lord's first ministerial utterance in the days of His flesh. This is prefaced by the words, It standeth written. To live, and to live continuously in the future, man must be begotten by the incorruptible seed, the Word, which will most surely result in the rebirth or resurrection from the dead.

We might understand it a bit better if we consider the begetting of our Lord, Who was begotten, 'not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God' (John 1:13). And He was without sin. So the Spirit begetting of a man is a miraculous work and results in resurrection; all a new creation.

In John 3:5 the Lord makes it plain to Nicodemus that a man must be begotten of 'Spiritual Water' which is the Word of God (Eph 5:26), if he is to enter into the kingdom of God.. And in the next verse he makes a comparison, showing that anything that is begotten of the flesh brings forth flesh (no evolution here), and that which is begotten of the Spirit brings forth a spiritual body in resurrection. In verse 8 we are to understand that the pneuma, the Spirit (not wind), resides in those who are begotten, leading them where He wills and speaking through them as He wills. This is a great lesson for us yet today.

Note the usage of 'begotten' in John 3:16,18. He was God's Son because of a unique begetting.

In 1Corinthians 4:15, Paul reminds them that in Christ Jesus he had 'begotten' them through the gospel. This is a slightly different angle on the usage of the word begotten, but it helps with the study of the word.

It is too bad that the translation of Galatians 4:23 has obscured the real truth. 'But he of the bondwoman was begotten after the flesh; but he of the free woman (was begotten) by promise.' Think on this. In the next verse the word 'gendereth; is still in the Greek the word for beget. Also in Galatians 4:29 we have the word 'born' twice, but it is really 'beget' or 'begotten'. Notice the conclusion at the end of the verse. Professing Christians, but not begotten of the Spirit, are persecuting those who are begotten of the Spirit. 'Twas ever so.

Note another use of beget in 2 Timothy 2:23, 'But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do beget strifes'. You may think of some similar passages in which this idea prevails.

1 Peter 1:3 tells us a profound truth. 'Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who hath begotten us again unto a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead'. This again echoes Deuteronomy 8:3 and other passages mentioned. It is too bad that after using the word correctly, the translators changed it in verse 23. There it should read, 'Being begotten again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the Word of God, Which liveth and abideth forever.'

So we are led to understand that this begetting is everlasting life; the alternative is to 'perish'.

But we have The Mind of “Christ” meaning “The mind of “The “ANOINTED ONE of GOD The FATHER”.

“Let this mind be in You as it was in “Christ Jesus” Our Lord”!

If you don’t, The scholars, the poets, the religious writers, of our time and space will “wean” you away from The Simplicity that is in Christ Jesus “Our Lord”.

So many of my brothers and sisters in Christ, may think it is a “detestable” thing to even considering a study or a class concerning “Methodology & and the different types of Hermeneutics “ that is more “suitable” to them in studying of The Bible. And there are Reliable and well authoritative lectures on the subjects free of charge. on the the internet. For many would rather take up “Knitting”, engage in how to spend my money in a Christian way, and how to speak in Tongues, and whether or not should I pay tithes of the net or the Gross. And then they have the “Audacity” to write a book, and promote another’s writings just because it sounds good to them!
And many declares, words like “Begotten” and “Begetting” that existed not until the 16th century or somewhere around that time. And claims this is what it means. And they have never pickup a “Vine’s dictionary of New Testament Words” or own one, that go hand & hand to “The Englishmen Greek Concordance of The New Testament” then “A. reliable “Greek Lexicon” comes last. And many do not even know The Greek Alphabet” and think they can define a word concerning “The Original Manuscript Copied Text” for many fail to realise some of the words they are looking up, I don’t care if it is in Greek, it did not exist and don’t exist in The Original Scroll”. It would be nice and appreciate if some took the time out just to know this, to learn about The Text they are defining and many words they go at such great lengths to define, that did not exist.

Ok maybe, I have said to much, now.

“the English word is like a boat on a sea, The Koine Creek “Biblical Words” to us even “His Children” is liken to HIS Words traveling The “7 Seas” and landing on ports docking then moving on as “One” commuting with “One Another” inspired by the other.

May I say this again: “ GOD our FATHER, made and making us, unique from one another, completely different , we are not the same but of one body, and we function as individuals as each “ Minute, pronounced “My- newt” is describe in The human body, even the parts that cannot be reveal by the human eye. But each parts function that is pleasing to GOD.

So, let’s us stop spreading things we know noting of but the things GOD has given us, from our “Being” that is invisible to the naked eye, but only revealed in “Christ”. the Hidden “Mystery” that is only revealed to us. As long as we remain in “The Vine”. “Broken”

When we come to Jesus and then believe, it is as drinking his blood. When we obey, it is as eating his flesh. After we eat his flesh and drink his blood, Jesus gives us pure water to drink that means Jesus gives us the Holy Spirit, John 4:10; 14; John 7:38; 39.

No one receives the Holy Spirit unless they believe and obey Jesus.

The words from the first epistle of John (above) came into my mind as I considered what you have said, in the light of the OP.
I love these words, because they take my mind back to John's gospel and the first verse:- 'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and without Him not even one thing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.' (Joh 1:1-4)

'That which was from the beginning,
which we have heard,
which we have seen with our eyes,
which we have looked upon,
and our hands have handled,
concerning the Word of Life,'
(1Jn 1:1)

We no longer know the Lord Jesus Christ 'after the flesh' as John did, do we? He and His fellow disciples handled 'the word of life', they ate and drank with Him, shared their daily lives with Him, and probably slept in His company too. How blessed they were!

In Him was life, and that 'life' was the light of men. The entrance of His word brings light and life, spiritual life, and the promise of life eternal. The words He spoke were the words of the Father, these ( as with the words of God spoken to the prophets of the Old Testament ) will not return unto Him void, they will accomplish what He purposes.

We who, by God's grace, have heard and believed that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and are trusting in Him as their Saviour and Lord, have life through His Name, they are born from above. How wonderful is that!

We have received of the Word of Life, the Living Word, and are in Him and He in us, we are where He is now, at God's right hand in the heavenlies, far above all might and dominion, and everything named. We now await His appearing in glory, when we too will appear with Him there. This is God's reckoning of faith, and it is a reckoning which we are to enter into and rejoice in, for what God reckons on is the reality, which we are to enter into by faith.

Christ's work is a finished work, and we are His workmanship, complete, accepted in the Beloved, Holy and without blame before the Father, walking in newness of life in the Spirit before Him, as those who have died with Christ, been quickened and risen with Christ, and ascended up with Him to God's right hand.

What a cause for rejoicing we have, don't we? Our spirit should be doing cartwheels!!

Praise God! - Praise His Holy Name! - For He alone is worthy.

Whenever someone mentions grace and has said it was by faith alone I think of it.

The subject of the thread is a 'Spiritual Begetting'. That is a work of God. You must of course realise that we are God's workmanship, saved by grace and not by works:

See that, you just proved my point. Not of works means no more circumcision and observance of special days and animal sacrifices... It doesn't mean no more obey.

For that is fundamental to the Gospel of the grace of God, yes? We are saved 'unto' good works, but that is quite another matter.

A person receives the Spirit after getting Jesus' teachings and obeying them.

John 14:23 Jesus replied, "Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.

John 6:53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
John 8:51 Very truly I tell you, whoever obeys my word will never see death."
John 6:63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life.

We are born again by obeying Jesus' words.
That is how we are washed and receive his Spirit.

I'm not understanding you there. I know though what those scriptures are about. The bondwoman was Hagar and her son was born after the flesh, and Sarah's son was born after a promise. It is about how through Jesus, we no longer have to do the purification works to belong to God, but by faith that Jesus purifies us of the sins we repent of doing.

Not sure exactly what you are getting at saying about bad translations and the word beget.

Did you read all of the passage?

They ask Jesus what they must do.

Jesus says to believe in him.

They have to believe that they have to obey him to have life.

They have to eat Jesus' flesh, he is the bread from heaven, and the only way to eat him, is to obey his words.

Did you read all of the passage?

They ask Jesus what they must do.

Jesus says to believe in him.

They have to believe that they have to obey him to have life.

They have to eat Jesus' flesh, he is the bread from heaven, and the only way to eat him, is to obey his words.

The act of eating and drinking in Scripture is used to describe the act of hearing and believing the word of God, by inwardly digesting the truth received and believing God, Whose Word it is, and walking accordingly. In Christ the Living Word. That is in faith obedience.

The act of eating and drinking in Scripture is used to describe the act of hearing and believing the word of God, by inwardly digesting the truth received and believing God, Whose Word it is, and walking accordingly. In Christ the Living Word. That is in faith obedience.
