I have a question, about speaking in tongues; it’s been on my heart for while though. Last Sunday, I was watching a program called Carte Blanche, it's a program whereby people go around exposing other people in society in what they are doing wrong. For example people who are involved in corruption, going to them and asking for their opinions to why they do such things etc.

This was on there last Sunday...

Apparitions of the Virgin Mary have been reported worldwide. Now a 17-year-old girl in Benoni (South Africa) says the Virgin has appeared to her 20 times in the last month with a message for the world. Carte Blanche meets with Francesca Zackey, whose claims have won both support and scepticism.

First of all I want to say I don't believe in it. There is nowhere in the Holy Scriptures, where it says that we are to worship the virgin Mary and that the virgin Mary will visit us. We are too pray to the Father only, Jesus even showed us and told us and taught us how to pray. Jesus also said we are to worship no other gods. That's all is pretty clear to me.

Now the question I ask, when the bloke was interviewing this girl, she mentioned speaking in tongues, and the presenter asked her, would she speak in tongues on camera, which she did and also some of the others in her house were also speaking in tongues and they were doing this slain in spirit and healing, lighting candles and had load of statues of the virgin Mary scattered around the house.

Now I go into a Christian church where similar things are happening. Speaking in tongues, slain in spirit, healing. Also other Christians are seeing and speaking to their dead relatives. For example, my husbands aunt who is in her 70's, claims to see these things, she is so sure that God sent that person to her, she prayed about it, and she said God told her, that she mustn't worry about it, all will be revealed later. When we try to tell her that this is not right, she gets really angry with us. Now also, her granddaughter is also seeing her dead brother, she claims that he speaks to her. The parents are Christians, they go to a normal trinity church, but these people are seeing these things.

Now I am speaking of 3 different trinity churches here, 1 is non-denominational church, 1 is an Apostolic Faith church, the 3rd, I am not sure, but I can find out next weekend.

Now the question I ask, are these people born in spirit? If not, how can they speak in tongues, and do all these wondrous things?

I believed this is all the same work that dose in the satanic works not from the Holy Ghost because we know the different works because some satanic people that I have spoke to have spoke in tongues but there some wired things when I heard there tongues I mean very strange not like the one when I speak in tongues because on there tongues give me a panic attack and they was cussing bad words too and I know there something with wrong with it I think there processe and it like darkness but nothing positives just scary stuff, is not from God but the devil and will do like God works that stupid copy cat! LOL

Anyways there are Charismatic Roman Catholic church also believe it or not because I know what Satan is doing because is very false is not like going to any Pentecostal or Charismatic church that I go.
Because the bible says that Satan will look like an good person or like an Angle. But there something very fishy about Satan nowadays…

If theses people seeing dead people is really a demon because Satan is trying to trick people and that is the devil work and don't get confuse about this junk!

When one reads through the book of Revelation, he can easily see that the terminal generation of this age will see and/or personally experience the effects of war, famine, martyrdom, gross sin and deceit through Satanic miracles! Unfortunately, many in our day don't recognize that miracles do come through two sources -- God and the devil! In the book of Exodus, we learn that some of God's miracles were duplicated by Satan's power channeled through the Egyptian magicians: a wooden staff became a snake (7:10,11); water was changed into blood (7:20-22) and frogs came out of the water and covered the land (8:6,7)! Demons can and do perform miraculous signs (Rev. 16:14). To be specific, we can be sure that our generation, if it is the last generation, will hear of or see in the future fire coming down from Heaven to earth (Rev. 13:13) and an image of the Antichrist speaking (Rev. 13:15) because of Satanic power! In fact, it will be because of such miracles that the ones who receive the mark of the beast and worship his image will be deceived (Rev. 19:20). [Please read and circle that verse in your own Bible for yourself.] They will be deceived by astounding and awe-inspiring miracles produced by Satanic power! See also 2 Thess. 2:9,10.

Satan has in the past, is now and will continue in the future to use miracles to deceive. This truth is the answer to the mystic questions regarding Edgar Cayce, Padre Pio, etc. who carried conflicting messages about God and the afterlife along with their signs and miracles. Similar conflicting messages surrounding miracles and visions are found in a comparison of Mormonism and Catholicism. For example, AFTER prayer, the Mormons were saved by sea gulls which ate the crickets that were eating their grain in Brigham Young's day. In contrast, the Catholic church endorsed with the highest honors the 1917 Fatima visions of a personage claiming to be the Virgin Mary, which declared herself as our "refuge" and "the way that will lead you to God." Such is in direct conflict with Jn. 14:6 which declares Jesus as the only "way" to God! Since Mormonism and Catholicism both have miracles and visions and their messages about salvation are in conflict with each other, we logically know that God can't be the only power source for these miracles and visions. We can be dogmatic, since God is not a God of confusion. [God's power was NOT active in either of these cases!]

What then must we gauge all messages and teachings by, since miracles, visions, signs, etc. can be deceptive? The criterion is God's word (2 Tim.3:16,17). If God's word isn't considered as FINAL AUTHORITY when "testing" a miracle, vision, dream, prophecy, teaching, etc., one will probably be deceived and could possibly lose his soul! Did you know that if you are deceived by a miracle into receiving the mark of the beast, YOU will end up in Hell, even if you were once saved (Rev. 14:9-12)? We MUST be both "self-controlled" and "alert" to stand against the devil and his wiles (1 Pet 5:8; Eph. 6:10,11). To reflect upon the contents of this message until an indelible impression is made upon your mind might make a difference in your eternity beyond the grave! Remember, these are perilous days that call for discernment. In conclusion, God still performs miracles in our day (Jn.14:12; Acts 4:30; etc.), but so does the devil (Rev. 16:14)!

So you see the truth...

Hmm, I do not believe this girl either. The Bible tells us there is other spirits besides God. So we must test every spirit by the Bible and if it goes with the Bible it is of God, but if not it is not.

John 4:24
"God "is" a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." KJV

I believe in speaking in tongues, but I believe there are so many people abusing this gift today just like they did in the church of Corin. We must have an interpreter when speaking in tongues or it only edifies us. When someone speaks in tongues and it is not interpreted it only brings confusion. A lot of people are doing it for wrong reasons and God knows their heart. There are people that speak in tongues that are not using the spirit of God. Like the Bible says there are other spirits besides God.

1 Corinthinas 14:28
"But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God." KJV

Pray for these people, sister. Pray that they look to the Bible and not their hearts. The Bible clearly tells us our heart is the most deceitful above all things. We MUST obey the Bible. God Bless

Jeremiah 17:9
"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" KJV

Thank you for clearing this issue up with me and shedding more light to it. On some occasions, I too have spoken a tongue, which didn't seem right, I just got that feeling inside and I immediately stopped. I know I am very cautious now, a bit over cautious really, I do ask God to forgive me for this, but He did warn us in scriptures how devious the devil is, and also warned us and advised us to test the spirits.

1Jo 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

In the book of Exodus, we learn that some of God's miracles were duplicated by Satan's power channeled through the Egyptian magicians: a wooden staff became a snake (7:10,11); water was changed into blood (7:20-22) and frogs came out of the water and covered the land (8:6,7)! Demons can and do perform miraculous signs

I read this in Exodus, fairly recently. Reading about this opened up my eyes even more to the devil, in how deceitful he is and how he can fool us, it's something God warns us about so often.

Exo 7:11 Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers: now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments.

I believe in speaking in tongues, but I believe there are so many people abusing this gift today just like they did in the church of Corin.

I think this where the problem is, wanting the gifts and power of God for other reasons, than for God's purpose. I don't deny God power at all, but if ones heart is in the wrong place, this can cause many problems. If we seek the Kingdom of God first, I know He will bless us with the gifts and the power. But we need to use this only and entirely for His glory and not our own. That’s why the scripture tells us to deny ourselves. I know it’s not easy, as within ourselves, we do want some of the glory.

In these scriptures, Jesus tells us, what would follow, when we believe.

Mar 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
Mar 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Yep, I have a strong feeling about that on the things that I've think about to what you've spoke about because this is my strong feeling about it and my strong feeling is that there was no love and all there is the enjoy of the event “supernatural” but not the love which means I know is not of God because God nature is LOVE..

On the case of Speaking in Tongues is not always need a of an interpreter because I have question on that verse when they said him, and him who? How can you be silence when speaking in tongues by yourselves?

1 Corinthians 14:28
"But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God."

It says speak to himself is not saying to be silence like not saying anything so now if interpreter is not there to interpreter let him keep silence in the church so then no need for interpreter because God didn’t sent a person to translate so you can speak in tongues by your self or praying in tongues...

Today’s Question: I am not an expert on the subject of the Holy Spirit or speaking in tongues, but I have read the Lord's teachings on these subjects. With this in mind, I have a problem with how speaking in tongues is being allowed to be the focal point in Pentecostal/Charismatic churches today.

The Bible is very clear on how tongues are to be used in the church, and so far the majority of the people that I have seen use tongues have done it unbiblically. From what I have read if a message in tongues is spoken, then there must be an interpretation. All I want to do is have someone show me in the scriptures where the Lord says we can pray in tongues or speak in tongues in public, out loud, without an interpretation.

The confusion that people have regarding tongues has more to do with misunderstanding the many purposes and use of tongues. It seems to me that you have made the same mistake by assuming that the only public purpose for tongues is to provide a message to a group of people. As far as tongues as used to bring a message to people, yes, that tongues must be interpreted or else as Paul says, "the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and God" (1 Cor. 14:28).

Notice that Paul did not say that the speaker cannot speak in tongues, but he simply says that he should speak in tongues for God alone to hear. Obviously, this personal way of speaking in tongues will probably not be interpreted unless the speaker knows his own interpretation.

As far as speaking in tongues in public and out loud without an interpretation, it depends on whether or not the tongues is designed as a message, or as thanksgiving and prayer to God, or if the person speaking in tongues is doing it for the first time when he is baptized in the Holy Spirit. If the tongues is a message to the congregation, then definitely the tongues must be interpreted.

However, if the tongues are simply used in a setting where only believers are gathered to pray or praise God then there is no need to interpret the tongues since everyone understands what tongues are. In this situation there are no unbelievers who will say that "you are out of your mind" (1 Cor. 14:23). And if a few unbelievers or new believers are present, it might help if the leader explained to them what was going on. In our church, we provide a brochure to all visitors with a list of Scriptures that they can look up if they are concerned about a particular manifestation of the Spirit. This helps answer some of the inquirers about the gifts of the Spirit.

There are also times when people are being filled with the Spirit with the evidence of tongues for the first time as was in the case with the house of Cornelius (see Acts 10). At this event everyone spoke in tongues out loud without an interpretation. This happened also in Act 19:6 when the new believers "spoke in tongues and prophesied."

As you can see, Melissa, there is much about tongues that we need to learn, and hopefully, we are opened enough to keep learning.
