Sound Your Battle Cry

When Judah realized that they were being attacked from the front and the rear, they cried out to the LORD for help. Then the priests blew the trumpets, and the men of Judah began to shout. At the sound of their battle cry, God defeated Jeroboam and all Israel and routed them before Abijah and the army of Judah. 2 Chronicles 13:14-15 NLT

King Abijah probably doesn’t get his just due. He only reigned over Judah for three years, during the time Jeroboam reigned over Israel. When war broke out between the two nations, Israel had double the number of troops (800,000 versus 400,000). Abijah tried to warn Israel that the Lord had made an everlasting covenant with David, giving him and his descendants the true throne, but Jeroboam wouldn’t listen, and he paid dearly; 500,000 of his troops died during battle.

God’s people are usually outnumbered in any situation. The culture scoffs and laughs at the church whenever believers try to point it in the right direction, according to God’s Word. Today we live in what could be considered another dark age. Yet God is till faithful to His church. He still defends her. Don’t lose heart, no matter what your eyes tell you. Cry out to the Lord for help in pushing back the darkness. Blow your proverbial trumpet and then leave the results to God.

Prayer: Father, may I continue to shine my light for Jesus even when the circumstances around me seem bleak. I will trust in You.
