So.....How Do You Observe YOUR Sabbath Day?

Let’s assume that God's Sabbath was changed from the 7<SUP>th</SUP> day to the 1<SUP>st</SUP> day of the week. My question to the forum is this:


<DIR>Were ALL of the RULES that govern Gods Sabbath day changed also?
If they were, where in the bible can these changes be found?


</DIR>Because if there was a change, it can ONLY come from the one who instituted the rules governing the Sabbath in the first place; God.
These questions are for those that believe God’s Sabbath day was either changed or they believe they can serve God on any day they choose, as opposed to the (1) day He sanctified and called Holy; the 7<SUP>th</SUP> day.

Again, understand my questions: THEY ARE NOT ABOUT WHICH DAY IS THE SABBATH! Let’s read them again;

</DIR>Because if you cannot find where GOD CHANGED His rules governing HIS SABBATH, although you say the DAY CHANGED, you MUST STILL follow GOD”S LAWS regarding HIS SABBATH DAY!!!!

There are activities God says should be avoided on the Sabbath Day. And to find them we will go to the same place we are to receive ALL of our religious doctrine….the Holy scriptures. Just as God did not leave it up to man to determine what sin is, He did not give us a commandment to keep the 7th day Holy and then leave it up to US to determine how it should observed. To find ALL of how God wants us to observe His Sabbath we must do as the scripture instructs, “ For precept must be upon precept…line upon line; here a little, and there a little.”, Isaiah 28: 10. Below are scriptures telling us exactly what God does and does not want us to do on His Holy Day; His Sabbath.

Exod 16;
[23] And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning. [26] Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none.

Above we can determine (2) things; first, the Sabbath is a day for rest., second; we are not to bake or boil (seethe) foods on the Sabbath. No COOKING or HEATING foods on the Sabbath Day! Let’s read more:
　
Neh 10;
[28] And the rest of the people, the priests, the Levites, the porters, the singers, the Nethinims, and all they that separated themselves from the people of the lands unto the law of God, their wives, their sons, and their daughters, every one having knowledge, and having understanding;
[29] They clave to their brethren, their nobles, and entered into a curse, and into an oath, to walk in God’s law, which was given by Moses the servant of God, and to observe and do all the commandments of the Lord our Lord, and his judgments and his statutes;

So we see that not only the nation of Israel entered into an oath with God, but ALL that separated themselves from the people of the lands, that would do the law of God and had KNOWLEDGE and UNDERSTANDING. Do YOU have knowledge and understanding?
We also know that the laws they said they would keep were the same laws given to Moses by God. So let’s read one of the laws they said they would keep;

[31] And if the people of the land bring ware or any victuals on the Sabbath day to sell, that we would not buy it of them on the Sabbath, or on the holy day: and that we would leave the seventh year, and the exaction of every debt.

So now we know it is the law of God NOT to BUY or SELL on the Sabbath day. Now let’s read what the prophet Nehemiah had to say about buying and selling on God’s Sabbath day;

Neh 13;
[15] In those days saw I in Judah some treading wine presses on the sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and lading asses; as also wine, grapes, and figs, and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the sabbath day: and I testified against them in the day wherein they sold victuals.
[16] There dwelt men of Tyre also therein, which brought fish, and all manner of ware, and sold on the sabbath unto the children of Judah, and in Jerusalem.
[17] Then I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said unto them, What evil thing is this that ye do, and profane the sabbath day?
[18] Did not your fathers thus, and did not our God bring all this evil upon us, and upon this city? yet ye bring more wrath upon Israel by profaning the sabbath.
[19] And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and some of my servants set I at the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the sabbath day.
[21] Then I testified against them, and said unto them, Why lodge ye about the wall? if ye do so again, I will lay hands on you. From that time forth came they no more on the sabbath.
[22]And I commanded the Levites that they should cleanse themselves, and that they
should come and keep the gates, to sanctify the sabbath day. Remember me, O
my God, concerning this also, and spare me according to the greatness of thy mercy.

Here we see the prophet Nehemiah contending with the people of Jerusalem about BUYING and SELLING on the Sabbath day. So much so that in verse (21) he tells them if they continue he will lay hands on them. No BUYING, SELLING or CONDUCTING BUSINESS on the Sabbath Day! That is of course if it can be avoided. Jesus gave us an example that some things are ok to do on His Sabbath.

Matt 12;
[11] And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? [12] How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.

So as we can see, some things are permitted, if it is NEEDED, but are we to do whatever we like of the day God set aside as Holy? Let’s read:

Isa 58;
[13] If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:
[14] Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

Finally we see that we are not to do our own pleasure on Gods’ Holy day. We are to honor him, “not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:” No engaging in our OWN PLEASURES on the Sabbath Day!
Let’s review:


<DIR>The Sabbath is for rest.
We ARE to come together to worship the Lord.
We are NOT to cook on Gods Sabbath.
We are NOT to buy or sell on Gods Sabbath, if it can be avoided.
We are NOT to engage in our own pleasures on God‘s Sabbath.


</DIR>So for those that believe the 7<SUP>th</SUP> day Sabbath has changed, and you worship God on whatever day YOU decide, I must ask the following:
How do you observe your Sabbath?


<DIR>Do you spend it going out for dinner with family and friends after a good service?
Do you cook that great after service dinner at home?
Do you go shopping or maybe to the movies?
Do you spend the afternoon working around the house before watching The Big Game?
Do you do what YOU want for the day, engaging in YOUR pleasures, and not what God demands?


</DIR>Either way, does the observance of your Sabbath mirror that of the examples given to us in the bible?
　
Do you keep YOUR Sabbath the way God instructs us?
As I asked in the beginning of this lesson, IF God did change His Sabbath, which by the way, you will NEVER find it in the bible where He did, but if He did, were all of the rules that govern the Sabbath day changed also? And if they were, where in the bible can these changes be found?

Now here is something for you to think about while you are trying to find out how God says you should govern yourself on whatever day You decide to worship Him.

Here is a passage from the book of Isaiah. As you read you will see this passage is speaking about the 2nd coming of our Lord.

ISAIAH 66:
[15] For, behold, the LORD will come with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire.
[16] For by fire and by his sword will the LORD plead with all flesh: and the slain of the LORD shall be many.
[17] They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the LORD.
[18] For I know their works and their thoughts: it shall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see my glory.
[22] For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.

As you can see from reading above this is the time when God will return with vengeance upon the earth. It is a time of "Jacobs trouble" as some call it. The next verse is what you should focus on:

[23] And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.

So ALL FLESH, not just the nation of Israel, will come and worship the Lord from one Sabbath to another.

Here are a few additional questions to consider:


<DIR>Do you think THAT SABBATH will be the same 7<SUP>th</SUP> day SABBATH that God said will be an everlasting covenant?
Do you think He will say, “Don’t worry about the day, just pick ANY one and serve and worship me.”
Do you think at that time those that worship God will have a choice in the matter as far as which day THEY say is the Sabbath?
Do you think this Sabbath is ONLY for the nation of Israel?
Do you think you will be able to buy or sell on this Sabbath?
Do you think you will be able to cook on this Sabbath?


</DIR>You can best believe, those nations that are here on earth during Christ 1000 year rule WILL NOT have a say as far as which day is God’s Sabbath day. And they will keep ALL of the rules governing God’s Sabbath.

Now with that being the case, WHY would God suspend His Sabbath day and Sabbath laws for us during THIS age? Just does not make since.

Here is something else to think about; In the OT God told Moses to stone a man for breaking His Sabbath laws. How do you think that same man will feel on judgment day when he finds out that some DID NOT have to keep those same laws he was stoned for? How fair would it be of our God to punish the one for breaking one of His laws, but let another, not only break the same law, but REWARD them by allowing them into His kingdom? That would not be a fair God. That is a God that changes. I could not serve a God such as that! The God I serve CAN’T CHANGE!!

Something we must consider is this, just how long is FOREVER? Is there a break in FOREVER? After all, what is a perpetual covenant to God? Let’s read.

EXODUS 31:
[16] Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.

Now I know some are saying that these Sabbath laws are ONLY for the nation of Israel. Well are they really? Let's see what the scriptures have to say:

ISAIAH 56:
[2] Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.
[6] Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant;

So this covenant and these laws are NOT just for the nation of Israel, but for the man, and the son of man, and ALL those that join themselves to worship the God of Israel.
Again, understand my questions:

We are not under the old Testament Laws of Moses.

In the beginning when God created the earth and us, he simply said and on the last day he rested. He did not impose a Sabbath, there was no need for one, as Adam and Eve had daily communion with God, all was provided for them, and it was not until the Mosaic Law that the Sabbath came into effect for the Jews.

Times change, the world grows, many firemen, police, heath care professionals and so on have to work on the Sabbath. Some of us have jobs that require we work, it is a different society.

Jesus himself healed on the Sabbath and preached and worked and was always made the old law religious leaders upset at him.

In the new testament us Gentiles are not held to the old laws, or circumcision or many other things. A new one was added to not eat blood, this was done in Acts somewhere, been awhile since I have read that particular part.

Also back in the times of the Kings and Queens and world leadership, the Sabbath day was changed at some point, moved, made another day.

I see no command to have to follow the old rules of the Mosaic Law.
Jesus worked and preached and healed on the Sabbath.
Times change and life becomes different.

If we are supposed to observe the Sabbath I suppose I am in trouble, as some days I work, some I go fishing, some I go to church and always try to not work unless I have to, but only because I want to play. Now that is an honest answer for you.

The Sabbath was symbolic of Christ, Christ has been revealed to us now. Once you have found Christ what need do you have for the signs that point to Him.

Yes Jesus never said the Sabbath Law was not to be kept, but he did not say it was to be kept either. And most of the time he was always telling the religious leaders it really did not matter.

A preacher or one who has studied the bible professionally can answer better than I, but the Sabbath was a part of the old law and yes a part of the Commandments.

But like I said things do change. We have Jesus now, so there is no need for the Sabbath.

I think most who are schooled in this think the same, they just know how to say it more intelligently.

Every Christian in the world is headed for hell if we cannot cook as per the old law, because we all get up, turn on the stove and eat some eggs or bacon or something, feed the kids, and go to church or not.

Jesus also said the Sabbath is for us, for men. it is not to be a burden or restrict in any way. So if you work, fine, if you want to play fine, it was not intended to be a burden or restriction. The times changed.

Read Mark 2: 23 to 28.
Matthew 18:20 says where two or more are assembled together I will be there. It is not a command to do so, this can happen in your living room or at the dinner table or out fishing when you run into a buddy who is a Christian.
We just kinda assemble on the Sabbath, or what is now the Sabbath out of tradition and go to worship . Some more than others, I myself make it about once a month. And I have been known to tow the boat to church and leave from there to the lake and go fishing. So far Jesus has not sunk the boat. About the only thing that happens to me is the Holy Spirit will talk to me sometimes about more patience and understanding of a church. To try to not get disgusted with them over their money antics.

To keep the Sabbath as originally intended would not be like most of us do on Sunday anyway. As we do work, and prepare and sometime cook and or do things for a fellowship dinner after church, set up tables and so on and clean up afterwords. So the modern Sabbath is not as the original one in any event.

Beware of the old laws, to try to follow them is dangerous. We are in the age of grace and to keep the laws of morality and to hold God close. Other than that, we are pretty much free.

My question would be, at what point did God, not man, change the requirements for HIS sabbath?

Can the provisions of a will be changed AFTER a person dies?

I agree and this does not mean God changed or changed anything.
The Lamb of God was slain before the foundation of the world.
So Christ is the truth that has never changed.
Only our concepts of him change.
The law was given as a lesser light to guide man by night.
Now the "Day"(Christ) is revealed and the brilliance of his coming causes the glory of the lesser lights to recede.

Romans 14:5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.

I personally do both,I esteem "The Day"(Christ) above all other days.
All my days(cyclical time) I esteem alike.

When citing scripture to make a biblical point, we should consider not only what is being said but who it is being said to as well. The quotes from Hebrews should be seen as things said to Believing Jews. The quotes from Collosians to gentile believers etc. Otherwise it is extremely easy to end up twisting the scripture to say something it does not really say. Of course it must be understood that things said to Jew or Gentile believers separately could apply to each other but the opposite can also be true.

In this case the context is fitting.
The author is trying to move both Jew and gentile into one body.
The stumbling blocks for a Jew were different than those of the gentiles.
The point is the same,all things find their fulfillment in Christ.

And Ezekiel tells us that by observing the Sabbath, the day, we are acknowledging that it is God Who is doing the sanctifying, and not we ourselves. So by keeping the Sabbath, it is actually a sign we have indeed ceased from our own works, and trusting in Christ’s working in us His righteousness.

I follow the line of reasoning but do not end up with the same conclusion. Do we know that the laws written on the stone tablets were the identical laws written on the hearts? While I agree that the changing of the life to make it conformable to God's standard of righteousness is sanctification, but the 10 commandments are not God's standard of righteousness as righteousness cannot come by the law.

Excuse me for a minute while I go be Berean, I must admit I am unfamiliar with Ezekiel teaching me that observing the Sabbath is acknowledging that God is doing the sanctifying. I know that God doing the sanctifying is true but didn't realize it was said that it was through the observation of the Sabbath...one moment while I study.

I didn't find it. Sanctification is a big subject. Done by both God and man. God orders men to sanctify themselves. God speaks of how his word sanctifies those who receive it. We are sanctified by the blood of Christ. And I do see the connection to sanctification that is made through the ceasing of our works. But what it means to cease from our works is the question. Jesus never did his own works. He observed the Sabbath 7 days a week. He always did the works of his Father. The words he spoke were the words of his Father. His life was all about glorifying God and loving others through denying himself. He is Gods righteous standard. So while one is chasing his own personal agendas in this life he has not ceased from his own works in favor of Gods and has not submitted to the righteousness of God.

They are the Epistle of Christ - Not the 10 Commandments.

Must we assume he meant the 10 commandments? Or Mosaic Law? I believe he meant more so the Law of Christ.

I thought Christianity was based on the Bible? It was those very burdensome additional traditions as detailed in the Mishnah that Jesus came to do away with. Jesus taught how to keep the Sabbath. Walk as He walked, not as the Rabbis.

I beleive Jesus looked down on much of the Mishnah because many of the ordinances were man made.
In the following verse, Jesus broke a law on the Sabbath when he healed a blind man:

One of the ordinances of that day was that it was illegal to spit on the ground on the Sabbath, because spit on the dirt makes mud and that was considered working on the Sabbath!

Jesus, not only healed the man that day but he was clearly and willfully violating a man made law. When you think of it, Jesus could have just as easily spoken the word and the man's eyes would have been healed!

The Mishnah is man's attempt at narrowing the original command to protect it from being broken. They thought that they could legislate morality and religious fervor. It backfired and they created a broken system with loopholes and a structure that refused to help people in their struggles. These are the 'traditions and commands of men' that Jesus frequently fought against. It is not the same as the 'old covenant' laws, it is additions to them that were the problem.
