Then David said to the Philistine, "You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 1 Samuel 17:45 NKJV
Men tend to highly respect physical and emotional strength, intelligence, know-how, wisdom, and other things you believe make a man a real man. While those are all good qualities, those who want to accomplish great things for God’s kingdom must remember that you can’t do a single thing without Him.
The young shepherd boy David understood this as he faced off with a giant warrior named Goliath. There’s some debate about Goliath’s size, but you know that his armor alone weighted 175 pounds. To say the least, Goliath was a man’s man, and his awesome size and weapons made this match-up a “no contest.”
Except…
David knew from the beginning that this confrontation wasn’t going to end well for Goliath. He knew that for one very good reason: he was fighting in the name of his mighty, all-powerful God. It was indeed a no contest, but not the way Goliath thought it would be.
What giant do you face today? How can you defeat him?
Prayer: Mighty God, thank You that-while I can’t accomplish anything for You by my own strength—with You I can do anything You call me to do.
