But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the Lord; and be sure your sin will find you out. Numbers 32:23 AMPC
As they approached Canaan, the Israelite tribes of Reuben and Gad saw an opportunity for themselves in the area south of the Sea of Galilee, outside the Promised Land. The land was good for livestock and for raising families, so they came to Moses with an offer. The men of Reuben and Gad would lead the Israelites in conquering the Promised Land in exchange for the area south of it.
Moses accepted the offer but gave this warning: If they didn’t help the rest of the Israelites conquer the Promised Land, they would have sinned against the Lord and they would suffer the consequen ces. Even if Moses wasn’t around to make sure they followed through, the Lord would know and their sin would find them out.
Sin always has consequences. Whether a broken promise—the sin in question in today’s verse—or adultery or a lie or simple selfishness, sin always has consequences. Whether anyone else discovers your sin, God knows about it, and the presence of sin in your life breaks the relationship between you and Him.
Fortunately, Jesus’ sacrifice has paid for your sins. His forgiveness is available to all who repent. Turn from your sin and accept God’s grace, and your relationship with Him will be restored.
Prayer: God, thank You for offering restoration when my sin breaks our relationship.
