Should I wait on the Lord?

Here is a scenario, a thief breaks into my home. In the process he attacks and harms your loved ones! Personally, I would attack the thief and subdue him.

He resists, so I break his arm in the process. The Lord gave us a brain to reason with, I beleive he has done this because he doesn't want us to be robots and standby for his direction.

A discussion on this topic came up in a Bible study. As husband and father, I'm to protect my loved ones. If I was to wait on the Lord, I may have allowed the theif to get away.

Again, It is my opinion, that God has given us a command to protect our wives.

Ephesians 5:25, Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave himself for her.

That's pretty clear, he commands us to protect our wives.

There are some Christians whom beleive that we should let the Lord handle it.

Isaiah 40:31, But those who wait on the Lord, Shall renew their strenght;
They shall mount up on wings as eagles,
They shall run and not grow weary, They shall walk and not faint.

I beleive that this passage is not refering to this situation.

I'd like to hear your opinions!

Romans 12:18-21
If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.

Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord."

To the contrary, "if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head."

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

1 Peter 2:23 Look to Jesus
When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.

Cast out the demon in the name of Jesus Christ.

Edward, cast out demons? What does protecting your family from a burglar have anything to do with casting out demons? Loving your enemy, this is irrelevant to protecting your family. Love and protection are two different things. I don't know what town you live in - but I live in NY and if someone broke into my home, I'm going to do everything I can to make sure he doesn't lay a finger on anyone. I'm not going to sit there trying to cast out his demons nor am I going to sit there and try to preach to him when he's in the middle of robbing my family and hurting us.

There is a time and place for everything. I for sure do not live in wonderland, but for others I cannot speak.

You can and should pray for the enemy, the burglar but you still better had protected yourself and your family.

Matthew 5:39-42
Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.

Jesus said these words. Jesus left the example for us to follow. Jesus is God.
God is wisdom. God gives good advise.
If this were a guns and ammo forum, someone would tell you to buy a gun.
But no, this is a Jesus forum. Jesus often tells us to do what is contrary to human logic.
Jesus says lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven and give to the poor, rather than "buy low, sell high" or "make your money work for you."

God says, "where your treasure is, there your heart also will be."
Who do you love more? Family, possessions, or Jesus?

just some comparisons to ponder. wisdom from above compared to wisdom from below is drastically different.
