Hey everybody, this has been a discussion of great debate with my family recently. Should a child be taught to believe in Santa Claus? Wouldn't this distract from the true meaning of Christmas that is in our Lord Jesus Christ?? Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

God Bless and Merry Christmas!

No, do not use this Santa tool to distract from the meaning of Christmas. The Santa we see today was dreamt up by a marketing department store team. I told my kids early on that we, as Christians, celebrate Christ coming into this world for our salvation. We give presents of course, and it is good to teach children about giving.

Sergent: Merry Christmas to you as well, and others who read this. My parents made Santa a huge deal. My wife an I did not. Jesus birthday was and always will e the focus of our Celebration in Christmas. We did fool around and give each one a gift from Santa, but our kids knew it was us. Today, as Christ is all but a joke to most people I think Santa needs to be very little mentioned.
As a pastor I have heard grown adults say Jesus and the virgin Birth story, are just like Santa. When one lie is told then it sets kids to think Jesus and His birth might be a lie as well. I encourage you to make Jesus Christ the focus of Christmas.

Satan has done his best to destroy peoples belief in Jesus Christ. Do you think there is something odd that Santa and Satan are pretty close in sounding and spelling?

Jesus is always the center of all we do or think, right

This day and age, the character of santa claus is someone who gives presents to "good" girls and boys only, has magic powers, flying raindeer, lives at the north pole and delivers these gifts magically in one night. How much of that is truth? Tell them the truth, not lies. And to boot, businesses use it to get ppl to buy more so that they profit more, is that what Christians should promote? Is it really harmless? They used to say that tv and video games didn't shape values. Do you still believe that as well?

I think what NEEDS to be taught is that there WAS a person named Saint Nicholas (though I'm not really into calling a person Saint...). The history behind the "Santa Claus" of today...just an idea.

Children will NOT "miss" believing in Santa Claus. Sadly, many think it is okay to believe in Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, and the Easter Bunny...*sigh*

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour
1 Peter 5:8

Don't deceive your children with the evil lie of satan claus (santa claus)
