"So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:36
It’s tough to argue with the truth that you sin (see Romans 3:23). God wants you to admit your sin so He can forgive you (1 John 1:9). You can’t undo what you’ve done. You can’t justify your actions in God’s courtroom. You come to Him burdened with sin debt and leave as His adopted and forgiven son.
Unlike those who dredge up your old sin to use as a club against you, God takes an entirely unexpected course. He forgives. He forgets (Psalm 103:12). God offers freedom, but Christians often remain incarcerated by choice. You may not feel ready to forgive yourself, but you can’t ignore the truth that God can, and does, forgive you. You can accept His forgiveness and discover the freedom your soul has always craved.
Of course, you need to understand the depth of your sin before you can accept and appreciate the freedom found in Christ. But accepting God’s forgiveness is important because He’s got an incredible future awaiting you, and you won’t experience it by living in the past while clutching the sin rags that God has already forgiven.
Jesus shared His plan for your life in John 10:10: “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” Jesus sets you free. Believe and accept His freedom.
