And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice--the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Romans 12:1 NLT
Paul urges the Roman Christian to offer themselves in service to God and sacrifice their own plans and desires. While they could make any number of sacrifices in order to please God, the only sacrifice God desires as an act of worship is their sacrifice of themselves. Such a personal offering follows the same example Jesus set when He became a man and suffered death.
Consider all of the ways you try to win God’s favor or capture His attention. Do you ever feel anxious or exhausted from the uncertainty of ever doing enough for God?
Paul’s message today is both simple and costly, as he challenges you to offer yourself to God as an act of worship. This means asking God to guide you wherever He may take you. That will certainly prove challenging as you let go of things you consider important, but you will also gain intimacy with God that will surely overshadow what you leave behind.
