So Jesus said to them again, "Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you." And when He had said this, He breathed on [them], and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. John 20:21-22 NKJV
Jesus’ twelve disciples—also called His “apostles”—spent three years with Him, traveling around the land of Israel, witnessing His astonishing miracles, and hearing His amazing, life-changing teaching.
What the Twelve didn’t understand however, was that Jesus was preparing them to rock the world around them with an eternal life-giving message of God’s love and forgiveness. That’s why, on the night before He was crucified, He prayed, “As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world” (John 17:18).
After He was raised from the dead, and before He returned to His Father in heaven, Jesus told His disciples (minus Judas) that He was sending them into the world to preach the Gospel message. But before they went, they received the empowerment they would need in the person of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus sent His disciples out on a world-changing mission, and it’s the same mission He sends you out on today. With the empowerment of His Holy Spirit, you can do it—unshakably!
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I know You want me to take Your message of salvation to the world around me. Thank You for giving me Your Holy Spirit to empower me to do what You’ve called me to do.
