.......the hope set before us: which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast - Hebrews 6:18-19.

From one of the headlands of the American coast, during a great tempest, the wrecks of 10 vessels could be seen, while not one ship in the harbour
was damaged. This was owing to their anchors. In a great storm, if the anchor 'is sure' in that it does not break, and 'steadfast' in that it does not move,
then the vessel is safe. So of our hope, 'for we are saved by hope'. If our whole being, body, soul, and spirit, is anchored on Jesus, then self will
abdicate the throne, and give place to Jesus that He may take possession, and reign in and over us as a present Saviour from sin - and we shall live
in independence of the world.

There is one trait in our character which we must be ready and glad to yield up, and that is our cherished independence. The word independence is
a favourite word today. It is written on the heart of every child of Adam: but God is going to teach us the blessings of dependence.
We are going to abdicate a throne, and accept Christ as our king to rule over us all the time. We must be utterly and entirely dependent on the Lord, if we
would have His strength instead of our weakness.

May the Lord teach us this close intimate dependence of faith in Himself, which knows in whom it trusts while independent of the world!
Then He will lead us gently. Our lips must cease to talk about people; we must leave off gratifying self; our feet must walk in His very footsteps; and, as
we say 'Crown Him Lord of all,' let us put Him on the throne, and, yielding the sceptre to His own hands of wisdom and love, let us ever crown Christ as
our abiding Deliverer from all that is not of Him, and then, though without Him we can do nothing, with our King enthroned in our heart we shall
have complete and continual victory.

For in Thee O Lord do I hope
Psalm 38:15

Thank you @stephen for your heart-lifting, thought provoking post, just what I needed this morning

How wonderful to know that we have an anchor that keeps our souls secure and steadfast despite the storms of life.....
And all that we need to do is depend entirely on that beautiful anchor our Lord Jesus Christ

Will your anchor hold in the storms of life,
When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift and the cables strain,
Will your anchor drift, or firm remain?

We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Steadfast and sure while the billows roll,
Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love.

It is safely moored, ’twill the storm withstand,
For ’tis well secured by the Saviour’s hand;
And the cables, passed from His heart to mine,
Can defy that blast, thro’ strength divine*
