"'King Nebuchadnezzar, please accept my advice. Stop sinning and do what is right. Break from your wicked past and be merciful to the poor. Perhaps then you will continue to prosper.' Daniel 4:27 NLT
After having a dream that frightened him, King Nebuchadnezzar called in all the wise men of Babylon. He ordered them to tell him what his dream meant, but they weren’t able to do so (Daniel 4:7). Finally, he turned to Daniel, who told the king that he would be driven from society and live in the fields with wild animals (Daniel 4:25). Yet Daniel didn’t leave him without hope. If the king turned from his sinful past, Daniel said, he would prosper.
Have you ever been in crucial conversation where you had to say something difficult? Maybe you had to confront your boss, coworker, spouse, or best friend. Did you hedge your message? Or were you respectful yet completely honest?
Daniel certainly could have paid a heavy price for his honesty, but he was a man of integrity who said and did the right thing, no matter what. Are you willing to follow his example, even if you have to pay a price?
Prayer: Lord, may I always be willing to say the hard thing, in love. By doing so, I know I’ll give people the opportunity to experience Your favor.
