Satan's Star of Bethlehem!!!

In the story of the nativity play, the star from the East, is always spoken of as being sent by God. However, if you take a closer look at the Bible, you will see it was not God who sent it.

The astrologers or three wise men, if in fact there was only three, were men who studied and looked for signs in the starry heavens. Yet the Bible is quite clear in stating this astrology practice is forbidden by God's law, so why would God use a star like this to announce His sons birth. (Deuteronomy 18:10-12; Isaiah 47:13, 14)

When these astrologers reached the region, the star guided them to Jerusalem, not Bethlehem, Why? The result of this detour informed the King Herod of Jesus' birth, which provoked him to try to kill him. (Matthew 2:1-6) Why would God but his own sons life in danger, only to send an angel to tell Joseph to flee to Egypt to escape the slater that was about to take place by the orders of the King, the star lead them too? (Matthew 2:13-15)

Finally, the star lead them to Bethlehem, then they got to see Jesus. Why, so they could report back to King Herod to tell him where Jesus was. But an angel told these men to flee by another way, so they could not tell King Herod where Jesus was. (Matthew 2:7-12) This infuriated the King and he ordered the murder of all the young babies in Bethlehem. (Matthew 2:16-18)

It seams to me, Satan sent this star to try and kill Jesus, but God's angels were watching out for him. So he survived this attempt on his life.

Hi Davy.
That's interesting thought there.. but i see it from different perpective.

Like you pointed out God's angels also saved these three men.

And i had the thought that if God would have wished he could have stopped those three men visiting herod in the first place. or even kill them.

So I have to think it was all part of God's plan.... because they were allowed to visit herod but spared.

as if they found grace.

but very interesting event as whole.

God created the stars NOT satan! Satan uses the things of God to confuse and whatever else he wants them to do. Don't give satan more credit than he deserves!

God had a plan long before the foundation of the world. Let's not forget that. I guess I have a different look at it.

I see these men from the East as seekers after not just the star, but what it could mean and why it is there. Do you think that those who are not of God don't have a clue about these type of things? These men weren't stupid. My guess is that they had done much study because why would they go on such a long trip without knowing why and what for?

I think in a way the movie The Nativity gives a good idea or reason for them to follow the star. And they say too...let's see it's found in Matthew 2.

See? in these verses 1 Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”

the men from the East...these wise men...knew about the King of the Jews! How?? They studied! My guess they studied the Old Testament and other writings. They weren't so "lost" as we might have thought. They went to the palace because they thought THE KING OF THE JEWS would be there! They didn't quite understand who Jesus was at that point. Them being wise...and learned...I believe they did understand after they saw Him and they ALL had a dream it seems...and they didn't tell Harod.

So again...don't give satan too much credit. His plans fail, but God prevails!!

And you don't think God could use evil against satan for His purposes? God can do anything and use anything!! It is what makes Him God!!

Oh and did you notice in verse 2 that the wise men said HIS STAR...they were following HIS STAR!! not just any star...but HIS! If that doesn't tell something, I don't know what does! ah and they WORSHIPED HIM, too!!

I have a feeling these wise men were never the same after seeing this little King!

I can't see it. I believe that God used the star as a sign of Jesus birth as there will be signs when Jesus returns.

The star prophecy.

Some think the Messianic prophecy in Numbers 24 is linked to the Star of Bethlehem. Unusual "stars" were seen as a sign of Royal etc birth/arrival apparently.


Num 24:17 NKJV "I see Him, but not now; I behold Him, but not near; A Star shall come out of Jacob; A Scepter shall rise out of Israel, And batter the brow of Moab, And destroy all the sons of tumult.

Your argument is moot, Davy, for Job 1&2 show that the devil can't do anything without God allowing it.

In 2 Kings we read of the healing that Hezekiah experienced at the hand of God. This healing from what was a terminal disease added many years to Hezekiah's life. As a sign that Isaiah's word to Hezekiah was true, God reversed the course of the sun ten degrees. This I think equates to about an hour.
Hezekiah was a popular king, and well known throughout the region. Although at this time Israel had been dispersed around the region of Assyria, Judah nevertheless enjoyed much prosperity and peace because of the reforms that Hezekiah had introduced.
Babylon was no exception. They also heard of Hezekiahs sickness, and not only so, but being sun worshippers took great notice of this event with the reversal of its course. The Lord made sure they also knew the source of this event, for they sent ambassadors to Judah to enquire about what was going on. You can believe that they would be very interested in a God who had power to move their god around the sky at will.
This was God granting Gentiles an opportunity to hear of His grace and goodness. Because He loves them as much as He does us. But Hezekiah blew it. Instead of giving the glory to God, he showed them all his wealth. However, the people of the east even to this day are still potential receivers of the true gospel.
And those who travelled to Bethlehem were no exception. The star was not necessarily a sun. How can a sun move over a little specific town like Bethlehem? I am more inclined to think that it was an angel or even a company of them guiding these men to the King of Kings. Angels are referred to as stars throughout the scriptures. And why shouldn't we expect God to bring Gentiles to the birth of His Son? After all, the locals refused to recognise the event, the visitation of the Gentiles to this birth is a testimony against them. If these men from the east knew of the coming Saviour, it leaves Jews without excuse. Also, why should we expect them to have discovered the 'star' through astrology? It was only 500 years previously that Daniel and an entire nation had been captive there, and their influence I am sure would have still been felt. There may have even been some Jewish descendants still living in Babylon and who knew of the teachings and traditions and also the expectations of the soon to come Messiah. Such things would not have gone unnoticed by the Babylonian 'wise men'.
