The Good Samaritan of Jesus's parable was called that because after the 10 Tribes of Israel in North Israel/Samaria had been conquered by the Assyrians and exiled away up to the Caspian area.

In John 4:31 Jesus asks a Samaritan woman for a drink of water to her surprise as she took him to be Jewish and Jews don't mix with Samaritans.
The Samaritans were pagan tribes who had been immigrated into North Israel /Samaria after the Ten Tribes had gone.

Jesus instructed his disciplesMatthew 10:5-8 “Do not go among the Gentiles, and do not go into a city of the Samaritans; but rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Clearly he wasn't interested in the pagan Samaritans nor the other pagans of the area but only the Ten LostTribes.

As the Ten Tribes had been exiled in 720 BC and Jesus was speaking in 32 AD? there had been 750 years for some of the Ten Tribes to drift back to Samaria.

Many had travelled far and wide: The Journeys of the 12 Apostles of Christ.
