Sabbath Obligation?

Sue D.,
re: "There was a long period of time before there was actually a church getting together on Sundays."

Agree. What is your point?

re: "There was a great deal of speculation as to whether Jesus actually Did rise again."

I don't think Paul, James, Peter, John or Jude had any doubts about it. At least not that they mentioned in their letters.

re: "...we are told in the Ten Commandments to keep the Sabboth Day holy and that was the 6th day."

Actually, the 7th day of the week is the Sabbath.

re: "Does Scripture have to be Loud on a subject in order to do it?"

Maybe, maybe not. I was merely pointing out that scripture is silent with regard to anyone observing the first day of the week in honor of the resurrection.

re: "You Do observe all the Protestant church worshiping on Sunday. Right?"

Yes, I think that is generally true of most of them.

re: "We also have Father's Day and Mother's Day every year -- nothing about That in Scripture, either. Same thing with anniversaries and birthdays every year."

There is no important religious significance with regard to those days.

@B-A-C -- that's true --

re: "This subject is regarding whether or not Saturday / Sabboth worship of God is still to be practiced OR if Sunday -- 1st day of the week is now in order. So -- God's Word is saying that Either day is okay for worshiping God."

Actually, all days are ok.

re: "Every one of us Needs to be taking a day off of working / a day of rest..."

And scripture says that day is to be the seventh day of the week and not the first.

re: "Sunday is usually the day Because it is the day that Jesus Christ rose from the dead. The Lord's Day / honoring His bodily resurrection from the dead."

It just seems odd that scripture is silent about anyone doing that. Why do you suppose that is?

My response would be that we Do need to take a day of the week off to rest. God took a day of rest -- He didn't need it. He knows that We need to take a break from work during the week. He instituted it on Sabboth / day of rest. And thus it was until the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ on 1st day of the week.

It's nothing we are Told to do. But we Do it to honor Jesus Christ. I Also compared that to having Father's and Mother's day every year. There's no Scriptural basis for that, either. But it's something Most people do. And there Are some people who Don't do that. That parent's should be honored All the time. But someone decided to set aside a special day each year to Honor mother's and fathers.

That which Is important is taking one day a week and stopping our work -- a day of rest -- as much as possible. Protestant churches meet on Sunday.

Maybe, maybe not. I was merely pointing out that scripture is silent with regard to anyone observing the first day of the week in honor of the resurrection.

Some of this probably comes from Exod 12:16; Lev 23:7; Lev 23:35; Numb 28:18; Numb 28:26;
.. but you are right.. no mention of the resurrection in those verses.

Some Bible translations say "first day of the harvest".. and some say "first day of the week". More study is needed.

Maybe some of us would rather pick Scripture apart than listen to what is being said up front / in plain English.

@Bob Carabbio -- well , yes, as believers we can 'rest' in Him. But we we're not obligated to Worship on the Sabboth -- a gathering together with a group to worship God. Because since Jesus Christ arose from the dead early in the morning of the 1st day of the week -- Sunday, we choose to honor Him by worshiping, God on that day.

"We choose" - is the key word. Obviously if you're a member of an Assembly of God, or a Baptist church, and want to get together with other Christians, Sunday would be when you'd find them gathered. The "Cowboy Churches" also meet on Monday nights, since their folks tend to be busy Sunday. One day is no different than another. If you're a member of "God's FINAL WARNING" church in Lancaster, TX, you'll have to show up on Saturday.

I grew up Baptist -- GARB and then simply conservative. And, yes, getting together with other believers is Biblical. And needed. for our encouragement, etc.

"God's Final Warning" church sounds a bit foreboding.

And I'm wondering --Why do folks tend to be busy on Sunday?

B-A-C,
re: "Mark 16:13-14; Luke 24:11; Luke 24:41; John 20:25-28..."

I'm not sure why you're referencing those verses.

Sue D.,
re: "It's [observing the first day of the week in honor of the resurrection] nothing we are Told to do.

And I was simply pointing out that it seems curious that such observance is not mentioned by any of the writers of the New Testament in case there may some who think that it is.

@rstrats -- my point was that just because an observance is not brought up in Scripture doesn't mean we Can't observe it. Unless there is an observance that goes Against Scripture -- there's no real problem With observing it.

There Are lots of people who Insist on Observing the Saturday Sabboth -- to keep it holy -- that's fine -- but it's also Before Jesus Christ died on the cross and was buried and rose again bodily in the early morning of the 1st day of the week. So -- a person Does have the choice of worshipping on Either of those two days. And there are Also those who feel it's necessary to keep the Ten Commandments as part of their salvation.

Br. Bear,

Since Colossians 2:16-17 has been referenced several times already what is your point in referencing it again?
