The Bible clearly teaches that satan, the antichrist, and the false prophet are three distinct beings who are active during the Tribulation, working together to form a counterfeit of the Trinity, a kind of "unholy trinity".
1. The devil (satan)
Identity: A fallen angel, the dragon, the covering cherub, originally lucifer, who rebelled against God.
Revelation 12:7–9 – Describes the war in heaven and Satan being cast to earth. Revelation 12:12 – "Woe to the earth...for the devil has come down to you in great wrath..." Revelation 13:2 – “The dragon gave the beast his power and his throne and great authority.”
Role in the Tribulation:
A. The mastermind and spiritual force behind both the Antichrist and the False Prophet.
B. Makes an appearance at the midpoint of the Tribulation (Revelation 12:14-17).
C. Seeks to destroy Israel and the followers of Christ.
Objective: To usurp God's authority, receive worship, and destroy God's people.
2. The antichrist (Beast from the Sea) – The Political/Military Leader
Identity: A ruler empowered by satan, often called "the beast" in Revelation.
A. He is a man – 2 Thessalonians 2:3: “...the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition.”
B. Charismatic and powerful speaker/leader – Revelation 13:5 – "He was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies..."
C. He is a Jew - Daniel 11:37 (KJV) says he will “not regard the God of his fathers,” which in Hebrew implies a Jewish heritage.
D. He is homosexual - Daniel 11:37 – “He shall regard neither the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women…”
Role in the Tribulation:
A. Becomes the world leader, likely rising to power through political means.
B. Makes a peace covenant with Israel, then breaks it at the midpoint (Daniel 9:27).
C. Demands worship and persecutes those who refuse (especially Christians and Jews).
Dan 7:25 He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, shall persecute the saints... and shall intend to change times and law.”
D. Reigns for 42 months (3.5 years) Rev 13:5-7.
Objective: Global domination and self-deification.
3. The false prophet (Beast from the Earth) – The Religious Leader
Identity: The head of a false religious system.
A. He is a man, distinct from the antichrist – Revelation 13:11–12 – He is “another beast,” rising from the earth, not the sea.
B. He has a religious role – Like a prophet or priest figure; leads people to worship the antichrist (Revelation 13:12).
Role in the Tribulation:
A. Performs signs and miracles to deceive the world.
B. Promotes worship of the Antichrist.
C. Enforces the mark of the beast system (Revelation 13:16–17).
Objective: Direct people to worship the antichrist, acting as his propaganda minister.
