And I said to him, "Sir, you know." So he said to me, "These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Revelation 7:14 NKJV
In today’s reading of Revelation 7, you get a glimpse of the end when a great multitude from every nation, tribe, people, and language will stand before the throne of the Lamb wearing white robes. On this first day of winter, it’s a beautiful picture of purity. One of the elders who will be there will identify the saints as people who have endured great tribulation.
In Matthew Henry’s commentary, he says, “The way to heaven lies through many tribulations.” What sort of tribulations have you endured? Henry offers a few possible suggestions, including persecution, temptation, a troubled spirit, spoiled goods, imprisonment, and maybe even death. No matter how you have suffered for the kingdom’s sake, know that a day is coming when you will stand before the throne in your transformed body and none of this will matter any longer.
That’s not to say that suffering is easy, but it should give you a different perspective. The Christian will suffer on this earth, but this won’t always be the case. Take heart.
Prayer: Lord, my troubles often weigh me down. Help me consider them in light of eternity. I can’t wait for the day when I’ll stand before You trouble-free, robed in white.
