Anyone seen the bumper sticker that reads "tithe if you love Jesus, anyone can honk"?
While it appears to be cute and kinda cliche' it seems some think it to be true enough to proudly display it on the back of their automobile. Why do some seem to boast about tithing? I believe this is simply the same religious pride that trademarked the scribes and pharisees that plotted against Jesus. The reason I believe this is because I was bound by the same religious mindset. While I no longer believe anyone must tithe, I believe it is important to be quiet about our giving to others and practice giving anonymously. Religious pride doesn't hesitate at the opportunity to boast about obedience to God by keeping religious rules. Every time I see that bumper sticker it reminds me of the the pharisee who prayed "God I thank you that I am not a sinner like everyone else".
