"Yet I will bring back the captives of Moab In the latter days," says the LORD. Thus far [is] the judgment of Moab. Jeremiah 48:47 NKJV
The Moabites were known for being gross idolaters. Numbers 25:1-3 records a shameful time in Israel’s history when her men engaged in sexual immorality with Moabite women who invited them to make sacrifices to their gods. They bowed down before these gods, making god furious.
In Jeremiah 48, we read all about how Moab faced destruction. And yet, at the end of that chapter; the Lord says He will restore the fortunes of Moab in days to come. It’s a head-scratcher, for sure. They hadn’t done anything to warrant such favor. And yet, God planned to restore them in some fashion.
Do you have an enemy who got what he had coming to him? Maybe he was caught with his hand in the cookie jar or maybe he’s an atheist who continues to mock you for your faith in Christ. In Matthew 5:44-45, Jesus said, “But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, "that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” Offer mercy and grace when none is warranted. As you do, you’ll show the world that Jesus really can restore and transform anybody.
Prayer: Lord, I want to be a shining example of Your mercy and grace. I didn’t deserve it. Nobody else does either. But as I show it, may they see You.
