Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days. Daniel 6:10 NKJV

Daniel knew his life was on the line. King Darius of Persia had issued a decree stating that anyone who prayed to anyone but the king would be put to death by being fed to lions. Daniel was in deep trouble, so he did the only thing he could: he prayed.

Daniel was a man of prayer. He prayed three times a day, every day. And as he prayed that particular day, he gave thanks to God. That’s right! With his life hanging in the balance, he thanked God!

When we’re in the midst of difficult times, it’s easy to forget to speak words of thanks to God. But that should be our exact response when life gets tough. No matter how difficult your situation may be, you can always speak words of gratitude to your Father in heaven.

God hears those prayers…and he responds to them too.

Prayer: Loving Father, sometimes I forget that You are my source of encouragement and strength when it seems like my world is coming apart. Help me to come to You regularly and faithfully in prayer, in good times and tough times alike.
