And in that day the Lord GOD of hosts Called for weeping and for mourning, For baldness and for girding with sackcloth. But instead, joy and gladness, Slaying oxen and killing sheep, Eating meat and drinking wine: "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!" Isaiah 22:12-13 NKJV

You’ve probably heard or seen the acronym “YOLO,” which stands for You Only Live Once. In our culture, that line of thinking is often taken as an encouragement for people to cram as much “fun” into their lives as they can before they die.

But the Bible teaches that YOLO isn’t the full truth. Yes, we only live this life on earth once. But after that is a second life in eternity—with God in heaven or in a terrible place called hell. That’s why the book of Hebrews warns, “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27 NKJV).

And it’s also why we Christians should take stock of our lives regularly, and then turn away from anything we know does not please God and turn to those things that bring eternal rewards.

Prayer: Lord God, may I never forget that I’ll stand before You one day and that You will judge the things I do here on earth. Help me to rid my life of the things that don’t please You, and fill my life with the things that will bring eternal reward.
