I wrote this from my own experience. The chain around my neck was depression. Although I was free from my past experiences, I felt discouraged. The enemy would mock me everyday about how I was nothing and no one would ever want me. He thought he had me, but I got into the word, increase my volume of worship read books. Now I know who I am in Christ and will be ready for our next battle.
I did believed him at some point, he still manages to whisper things now and then, but Christ is in me, and I have the victory

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (KJV)
3For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds
5Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
Fear not! God assures us that he is always with us .
Psalm 23 :4
4 Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death, [a]
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me
The problem lies when we start entertaining thoughts that are not from God and believing them.
1 Timothy 4
1Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
What determines our victory ?
Maturity in Christ.
Ephesians 4:15,
15But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
Ephesians 4:13
13Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ
There is no mystery on how we can mature, because God left his Holy word to guide us.
2 Peter 1:3
3According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
Knowing that the battle is not against flesh and blood, Ephesians 6:12. We must daily equip our spiritual self by putting on the full armor of God. Ephesians 6:10-18.
Excercisng our Freedom in Christ.
We live defeated lives when we deny this freedom, through doubt, fear and anxiety. Knowing that there is no condemantion for those in Christ, is nothing if we dont believe it in our hearts.
Galatians 5
1Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage
With all the negative thoughts and self condemning, we fail to realise that Jesus already broke the chains off our necks, he came to set the captives free. The devil uses our insecurities to confuse us, stop us from living a mature fruitful life and rob us of our freedom ( a freedom he can not take, but he does a great job making us think we lost it )
He is the father of lies John 8:44
The truth of God's word exposes him and his lies.
Ephesians 6:14
14Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
First step.
2 Corinthians 10:5
5Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
We sing this song all the time, and not really understand the meaning
Oh What peace we often forfiet , oh what
needless pain we bear, all because we do
not carry everything to God in Prayer.
If we start taking every thought to God, and allowing him to choose what dwell in us, this would safe us from alot of bad choices.
Lord you know my heart yet, this thing is always before me, remove it and clense my mind, fill me with your Holy Spirit.
We must allow God to transform our minds.
Proverbs 23:7 (KJV)
7For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee
Second our Mouth
James 3:10
10Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be
We have to be careful, what we speak for our lives.
Matthew 15:18
18But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
Finally
Jude 1:17-20
17But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;
18How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.
19These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.
20But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost

12They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
