Blessed [are] those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6 NKJV
Jesus spoke the words you just read—and there were more. Jesus prayed that God would bless the poor in spirit, the sad, the meek, those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, the merciful, the pure in heart, the peacemakers, and those who are persecuted because of right choices. Have you ever wondered what these blessed individuals have in common? They all—every single one—had decisions to make.
They recognized their need for God, were sorry for their sin, chose not to be bullies, chased after God, chose mercy before justice, didn’t want their hearts to be sin-stained, chose peace, and sometimes endured harassment because they followed Jesus. Yet each made choices that resulted in blessings from God—even when people thought they were foolish.
You can trade the contempt of individuals for a relationship with God. You don’t have to play it safe to discover safety. God takes care of your heart, mind, and soul. Be one of the blessed. It is a choice you can make.
Prayer: God, when I think about my legacy, I want to be remembered as a man You blessed. Give me the courage to dive into the best life I could possibly live here on earth. That life begins and ends with Your blessing.
