"Didn't I tell you?" the king of Israel exclaimed to Jehoshaphat. "He never prophesies anything but trouble for me." 2 Chronicles 18:17 NLT

King Ahab had a long history of committing evil before the Lord. In fact, 1 Kings 16:30 says he “did what was evil in the Lord’s sight, even more than any of the kings before him.” So it was no surprise he wasn’t pleased when the prophet Micaiah, who apparently often spoke against the king and his actions, said that King Ahab would die in battle.

The role of prophet was often a lonely one. Imagine being summoned by a king and asked to inquire of the Lord, only to hear Him tell you something that the king wouldn’t like. Then imagine that you are serving a wicked king whom God opposes at every turn. Micaiah, a lesser-known prophet, had the courage to do so. And ;his prophecy about King Ahab dying in battle came true.

While you may not be a prophet, you are a follower of Christ who is spending time in the Word of God. Your responses to people won’t always make you popular. But like Micaiah, you can honor the Lord by remaining true to what you know to be right.

Prayer: Lord God, give me Micaiah’s courage in the face of opposition. May I always remain true to You, no matter how unpopular my message it.
