religion

Mike, where does it say “Christian religion” in the bible? Where does it say that the Kingdom of God and or the Gospel is or should be a religion? How can the Creator of all things be a religion?
Where does it say that Jesus is a, or is a new religion replacing the Jews’ religion? I can’t find that anywhere. Show me that scripture.

I mean I don’t know you, why should I trust what you say without scripture.

This is what I found....

Acts 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

It says they assembled themselves "With The Church" and they were called Christians. Its an assembly of Disciples (A Church) and its christian (Christianity) = A christian religion.

At least this is what it says to me, what do you think?

Peace Brother....

Mike
All that shows is what the disciples were called in Antioch. Scholars say, in some other places they were call people of the Way. So your point is?

I’m sorry Mike, you found "Christian", but you still haven’t shown me in where does it say “Christian religion” in the bible? Or that it is a religion. Where does it say that the Kingdom of God and or the Gospel is or should be a religion? Where does it say that Jesus is a, or is a new religion replacing the Jews’ religion? Still waiting for you to show me that scripture.

Anybody can breakout and modern day dictionary, and see the world’s definition of something the world has given a name to. It is apparent that the world sees “Christianity” as a religion. The church, God’s church is supposed to be the Body of Christ, not a religion. You better wake up and smell the coffee man. Islam is a religion and says so. Don’t even think that the Body of Christ is supposed to be like that, in any way shape or form.

Brother Im not going to go back and forth with you over this. I dont mind discussing things with you so you and I can grow but to keep going back and forth over a word is not very productive. We probably will have to agree to dis-agree on this word (religion). Its not the word that is bad. you posted this scripture:

Jms:1:27: Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

It says Pure Religion, Religion isnt bad if its pure, but it still says its religion

26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

It says they were called Christians and unless you question that the disciples didnt practice pure religion then its obvious that its a group of Christians practicing pure religion. Which is a christian religion (Thats my point)

I feel God gave us comman sense and gave us logic and it seems pretty obvious to me, so when you say "wake up and smell the coffee" I dont even know how to respond to that comment, so I wont.

May you find truth brother and I pray God would open your heart and receive truth... If you would like to discuss other things in the future I would welcome you with open arms but Im done talking about the word "religion" anymore. I said my peice, you dont have to agree and that is fine, this is not a salvation issue...

Peace be with you....

Why are you so infatuated with the word religion Mike? You've claimed to gone through many denominations, you fuss over this word religion and you clearly misunderstood my thread about catholics. What else do you have on mind? I think your clearly "religious" because your so infatuated about it in the first place, that is one example of a religious person.

As a true Christian, free in Christ Jesus, free of man's wisdom and full of GOD's wisdom, we have a relationship with Jesus.

This is not difficult to understand, unless your heart is hardened.

James 1:27

Matthew Henry's Commentary

Exhortation to patience and meekness under tribulations.

When men take more pains to seem religious than really to be so, it is a sign their religion is in vain. The not bridling the tongue, readiness to speak of the faults of others, or to lessen their wisdom and piety, are signs of a vain religion. The man who has a slandering tongue, cannot have a truly humble, gracious heart. False religious may be known by their impurity and uncharitableness. True religion teaches us to do every thing as in the presence of God. An unspotted life must go with unfeigned love and charity. Our true religion is equal to the measure in which these things have place in our hearts and conduct. And let us remember, that nothing avails in Christ Jesus, but faith that worketh by love, purifies the heart, subdues carnal lusts, and obeys God's commands.

John Wesley's Explanatory Notes

The only true religion in the sight of God, is this, to visit - With counsel, comfort, and relief. The fatherless and widows - Those who need it most. In their affliction - In their most helpless and hopeless state. And to keep himself unspotted from the world - From the maxims, tempers, and customs of it. But this cannot be done, till we have given our hearts to God, and love our neighbour as ourselves

A little advice there Mr. Mike:

It is unwise to take scripture out of context and call it your own truth. The Lord has allowed me to show in context reference to religion in the NT and all other examples of tradition. It’s all I can do. It would be wise to look to the Lord in Spirit to lead you on this issue. And mind you those in Spirit can see tho they may not contest you on it. I have learned, if one sits quietly and lets some go on, you learn how much, you know what, they are willing to hand you, and how stupid they think you are.
