I live my life as closely to the proven Word of Yeshua as I can manage, confessing and asking forgiveness in prayer when I fail. There exist people, including myself, who accept the premise of Scriptural Authority, knowing that our God was, is, and always will be without change in any form. Along this line I offer:
1 John 2:18
Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour.

Source: 22 Bible verses about Antichrist

If any record does not fall within the parameters established in the known Word of Yeshovah is therefore worthy, only, of disregard.

I agree that our rule or standard of belief is not man's traditions and interpretations, but solely the word of God contained in the 66 books of the Bible. From that perspective, I do not understand why you give 1 Jn 2:18, and then post a link teaching that 22 verses are about the "antichrist".

"Little youths, it is the last hour; and even as ye heard that the antichrist doth come, even now antichrists have become many--whence we know that it is the last hour;" (1John 2:18 YLT)

"Who is the liar, except he who is denying that Jesus is the Christ? this one is the antichrist who is denying the Father and the Son;" (1John 2:22 YLT)

"and every spirit that doth not confess Jesus Christ in the flesh having come, of God it is not; and this is that of the antichrist, which ye heard that it doth come, and now in the world it is already." (1John 4:3 YLT)

"because many leading astray did enter into the world, who are not confessing Jesus Christ coming in flesh; this one is he who is leading astray, and the antichrist." (2John 1:7 YLT)

The Apostle John who wrote the three epistles I, II, III also wrote the Gospel of John and also the book of Revelation. Those 4 times I quoted above are the only times John uses the word "antichrist". In Revelation where the discussion of the man known by 666 is found, John does not use the word "antichrist". In 1 Jn 2:28 John refers to "antichrists" plural, and he has defined what he means by "antichrist" clearly as those denying that the Messiah has come in the flesh, Jesus the Messiah; in other words denying the incarnation.

Apart from the four verses above, nowhere in the books of Daniel, Matthew, Mark, Luke or 2 Thessalonians do you find the word "antichrist". Therefore, to list 22 verses that supposedly mean "antichrist", I do not understand it if we are going to go SOLA SCRIPURA. Once you leave those four verses mentioning the antichrist, to find him elsewhere is to venture into interpretations and traditions of man, not going by scripture alone.

The reason is that the world is filled with antichrists proclaiming works such as The Gospel of Thomas and many other works rejected when the Scriptures were canonized. Most of these idiots do not know they are an antichrist. It is for their education.

Who are you to say only the 66 books are genuine!
Enoch is as genuine as several other lost books.
The 66 books were chosen by a committee with as much false teachings as you yourself!

When it comes to the authenticity of the NT books, I find myself usually opposing the skeptics and theological liberals. Yet I do prefer the alternate translations of the RV, ASV, etc. given below.

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:" (2Tim 3:16 KJV) *The italics show that "is" was added by translators

Tyndale, The Douay-Rheims, RV, ASV, REB, and the Peshitta translate a bit differently and I'll give 3 examples:

"Every scripture inspired of God is also profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction which is in righteousness:" (2Tim 3:16 ASV) *The italicized "is" is added in different spot

"All scripture that was written by the Spirit, is profitable for instruction, and for confutation, and for correction, and for erudition in righteousness;" (2Ti 3:16 Murdock tr of the Peshitta)

"All inspired scripture has its use for teaching the truth and refuting error, or for reformation of manners and discipline in right living," (2Tim 3:16 REB)

Since there is no certain agreement by scholars on how to render the Greek I look at a hint given in Hebrews:

"For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward; How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?" (Heb 2:2-4 AKJV/PCE)

That early church would have handed down to it reputable histories of what writings were confirmed as "inspired" by the signs, wonders, miracles, etc. This to me indicates the early church looked to apostolic evidences in determining what writings were inspired. One search I did gave some ways the early local churches determined which were inspired. The church councils merely recognized and made official what the church was already using and considering inspired.

Apostolic Origin – The book had to be written by an apostle or someone closely associated with one.

Orthodox Teaching – The content had to align with the established Christian faith and teachings.

Widespread Use – The book had to be widely accepted and used by churches across different regions.

Divine Inspiration – Early Christians believed the Holy Spirit guided the selection process.

Historical Authenticity – The text had to be historically reliable and traceable to the early church.

**This does not mean there have been no questions raised in the history of the church, as Martin Luther himself questioned the book of James referring to it as an "epistle of straw:". But even though Luther had doubts about some books, his German translation included them.

The prophecy of Enoch revealed in Jude. Sounds like the same kind of prophecy used several times

Jude 14;And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.

That theme as prophecy he came with ten thousands of saints: from his right hand went a fiery law for them.is repeated over and over . Prophecy not a book

Deuteronomy 33:2 And he said, The Lord came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir unto them; he shined forth from mount Paran, and he came with ten thousands of saints: from his right hand went a fiery law for them.

confessing and asking forgiveness in prayer when I fail.
Well there you go... The core doctrine of the Teaching (LOGOS) of Jesus - to repent and ask the Father in prayer for forgiveness - no blood sacrifices needed. Now if believers could only stick to this, and not move on to other new-fangled doctrines, we'd all be set.

f any record does not fall within the parameters established in the known Word of Yeshovah is therefore worthy, only, of disregard.
I don't quite understand what you mean by "record" but the word "doctrine" would most certainly work here.

Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is coming,
Any Teaching that cannot be found in the very Words of Jesus that He preached while on earth are anti-messiah. But many, many people (hundreds of thousands even) claim "Jesus said this" and "Jesus said that" when such just cannot be found in the gospels (regardless of translation).

In the LOGOS (Teaching) of Jesus,

I do not understand it if we are going to go SOLA SCRIPURA. Once you leave those four verses mentioning the antichrist, to find him elsewhere is to venture into interpretations and traditions of man, not going by scripture alone.
"Little youths, it is the last hour; and even as ye heard that the antichrist doth come, even now antichrists have become many--whence we know that it is the last hour;" (1John 2:18 YLT)
αντιχριστοι is PLURAL, Dylan. One finds many anti-Christs all over the place throughout all of history.

And NO. The definition of the word (againstChrist) is NOT venturing into interpretations and traditions of men. Anything that speaks against Jesus as the Messiah is by definition anti-Messiah (anti-Christ). The modern geopolitical nation of Israel is antichrist (substantive adjective).

To be truthful, some of your teachings are antichrist.

But don't think that you don't venture into interpretations and traditions of men. Even here:
The Apostle John who wrote the three epistles I, II, III also wrote the Gospel of John and also the book of Revelation.
The Elder John is not the Apostle John. Surely with all those books in your library, one would have made you wise to this knowledge. (And not even the Apostle John wrote the Gospel named John. The book itself tells you who wrote it... if you open your mind and read what's actually written. cf. "John" 21:24. That one won't be in your books, btw.)

Since there is no certain agreement by scholars on how to render the Greek I look at a hint given in Hebrews:
ALL of them purposeful lies. They know how to accurately translate 2nd Tim. 3:16, but they don't want to, because an accurate translation destroys their religious tradition of an infallible holy book. Take a look:

2Ti 3:15-16

See what I mean? (One of these days I'll need to start a thread on this for those who truly are interested in knowing truth.)

Have you ever read the Gospel of Thomas, Bill ??

Truth be told, the only problem found therein is a requirement to be vegetarian, and I don't think there was tofu lamb when Jesus ate the Passover. :innocent:

And what of the book of Enoch? I keep running into Christians who believe that the Book of Enoch should be in the Bible, given that Jude seems to quote the book, and numerous copies of fragments were found in the Dead Sea Scrolls.

many other works rejected when the Scriptures were canonized.
So just when, then, were these books canonized, and by whom?

It's a serious question, although I expect you won't answer because you do not know. (But it would be nice to be proven wrong for once.)

God bless,
Rhema

Who are you to say only the 66 books are genuine!
Certainly not the 1611 KJV, which has 80 books.

Enoch is as genuine as several other lost books.
Whatever the heck "genuine" might mean. About half the Bishops at Nicaea in 325 A.D. didn't think Revelation was genuine.

It's a shame that the Didache was trashed.

The 66 books were chosen by a committee with as much false teachings as you yourself!
Aww, shucks. You ought to have clearly said who the committee was.

Peace out,
Rhema

But even though Luther had doubts about some books, his German translation included them.
Well he certainly couldn't have replaced the Pope with the Bible and then take out some books, placing himself as the new Pope.

He put himself in quite a pickle.

Luther's BIG mistake, though, was that he could not possibly conceive that anybody could read the exact same passage in scripture and arrive at a different conclusion.

Rhema

you either believe God is sovereign or you don't, it seems with such a question, I would ask you do you believe God is sovereign?
If a sovereign God chose to ensure that certain books were included in a Bible, why wouldn't that very same God use his sovereignty to ensure that a saving grace would also be preached before 1517 ??

Rhema, you are such an arrogant blowhard I wonder why anyone would believe a word you write?!

You apparently do not read an entire post before making a reply. I did underline "antichrists" to point it out, and then mentioned the plural later in my post.

I see I did mistype a reference once, 1 Jn 2:28 rather than 1 Jn 2:18.

Since the Apostle John is the only person to use the term "antichristS", I'll let him define his word as he meant it, not as some dictionary defines it. Even when using a recognized authority such as the BDAG, the usage of a word by its author takes precedence over a dictionary or lexicon.

You do not like how Greek scholars translate 2 Ti 3:16, so again, you'll pretend to be more of an expert in NT Greek than the centuries of scholars doing the English translations.

Concerning the author of 2 & 3 John, I'll stay with the well established tradition that has more support.

INTRODUCTION TO 2 JOHN by John Gill, 18th C

Though this epistle was called in question and gainsaid by some as authentic, as Eusebius says {a}, yet there is no room to doubt of the authority of it; it was very early received into the canon of the Scripture, and is cited as such, and also as the Apostle John's, by Irenaeus {b}, who was a disciple of Polycarp, and an hearer of Papias, who were both disciples of the Apostle John; nor need there be any question as to his being the author of it. Eusebius indeed does say {c}, it was a doubt whether it was the Apostle John's or another of the same name; and some have since asserted, that it was written not by John the Evangelist, but by John the Presbyter of Ephesus, after the apostle; and this is thought to have some confirmation from the author of it being called an elder, or presbyter, which is judged not so agreeable to the Apostle John; though it should be observed, that Peter an apostle styles himself an elder, as John here does, 1Pe 5:1, moreover, the above ancient writer, Irenaeus, expressly ascribes this epistle to John, the disciple of the Lord; and whoever compares some passages in this epistle with the former, particularly 2Jo 1:5, with 1Jo 2:7, will easily conclude, from the likeness of style and matter, that it is a genuine epistle of the Apostle John: the design of which is to exhort and encourage the lady he writes to, to continue in the truth and faith of the Gospel, and in love to God and his people, and to avoid false teachers and their doctrines.

From Bakers New Testament Commentary, 20th C and notice the last paragraph

The Second Epistle of John belongs to the category general Epistles. However, it differs significantly from the first epistle, which does not have a reference to the author and lacks an address. But II John is a personal letter with information about the writer and the recipients of the epistle.

2Jn_1:1. The elder,
To the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in the truth—and not I only, but also all who know the truth— 2Jn_1:2. because of the truth, which lives in us and will be with us forever.
a. “The elder.” With this title the writer identifies himself. He omits his personal name, John, and he does not call himself an apostle of Jesus Christ. Therefore, the address is not like those of Peter's and Paul's letters.

What is the meaning of the word elder? The term means either “church leader” or “elderly person.” If the writer is a church official, why does he say that he is “the elder”? He does not write “an elder,” as does Peter when he addresses the church: “To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder” (1Pe_5:1, italics added). He cannot be an elder in a local congregation, for his compelling influence reaches beyond the boundaries of one church. For example, we read in the third epistle that the writer, who calls himself “the elder” (v. 2Jn_1:1), does not belong to the same local church as Diotrephes does (v. 2Jn_1:9). Because of his authority, he cannot be an elder in one congregation. He fills a much higher position.

Why, then, does he not use the title apostle? In the second and third epistles apostolicity is not an issue. We assume that his readers knew that he was an apostle. Especially, in the last decades of the first century, his readers knew John as the only surviving apostle. That is, the apostle John had reached advanced age and bore the honorable title the elder.

And what of the book of Enoch? I keep running into Christians who believe that the Book of Enoch should be in the Bible, given that Jude seems to quote the book, and numerous copies of fragments were found in the Dead Sea Scrolls.
The prophecy of Enoch 10 words

Jude:14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,

Ten thousand (al the saints) Same words he gave to his apostle Moses the gospel in a nutshell

Deuteronomy 33:2 And he said, The Lord came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir unto them; he shined forth from mount Paran, and he came with ten thousands of saints: from his right hand went a fiery law for them.

Garee, just to pose a question about how we view non-canonical books like the book of Enoch. I take it that when the Apostles quote from a book outside the accepted, traditional canon; that part quoted is given NT, Holy Spirit endorsement as God's truth. Yet, don't we risk giving too much acceptance of authenticity to the entire book. Other books are mentioned in the bible.

I think we are safest to strict to the recognized book, the 39 OT and the 27 NT books. Yet, other books can give us some insight as to the Jewish thinking of the NT times.

Yes, I'm rambling, hoping a couple of shots of Evan Williams will help me sleep! Do not judge, the legend says the old Baptist preacher Elijah Craig stumbled upon how to make a whisky that turned out to be fine Kentucky Bourbon. Yeah, I'm stirring the pot! Things are getting a bit dull and boring around here.
:p

Thanks for the reply

I don't judge sleep I am a two-time napper. A spoon for of sugar makes the medicine go down LOL

Jude.. . Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,

Ten words of prophecy not a book. The same gospel words given to Moses.

The context warning of false prophets bringing oral traditions of men. Like the one in mind called the book of Enoch and not 10 words prophesied.

I would agree other books as private interpretations or personal commentaries can be useful in learning how to rightly divide and seek the approval of our unseen Holy Father.

Comparing as parables his interpretation "Let there be" (sola scriptura) the eternal to the "I heard it through the temporal father's grape vine" oral traditions of dying mankind.

Study seeking the approval of the Father the original the counterfeiter appears .

God who is Light and not that he can only create it temporally.

Genis 1:3-4;And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

You could say the "Let there be good " law of faith or power as a labor of love (believing God not seen )

Others make trusting oral traditions of mankind the one good teaching master denying our invisible Holy Father and the loving commandment to not call flesh and blood men Holy Father on earth.

Peter is not reincarnated indicated by white smoke. Which some must believe

They make claims they are the cannon assembler the DeVine authority, and it is a must. . the non-venerable pew sitters must call dying mankind Holy Father or Pope. Called an apostle's succession. I would say blasphemy

Matthew 23:8-10 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ;(not reincarnated Peter Mathew 16) and all ye are brethren .And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in Heaven; (not Rome) Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.(not Peter)

2 Peter 1:19-21We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

They are the same ones that deny the loving, living commandment to study rightfully interpreting in order to seek the approval of our Holy Father Christ

2 Timothy 2:15 Study (the commandment) to shew thyself approved unto God (not reincarnated Peter) , a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

The followers of Peter reincarnated they do it boldly outwardly others like the Nicolaitanes "venerable -men that lord over the faith as power of the non-venerable" do it more subtle

Revelation 2:6But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate.

Rhema, you are such an arrogant blowhard
Not any more than your Rabbi Gill. And I think you have much more experience in being a blowhard than I.

You apparently do not read an entire post before making a reply. I did underline "antichrists" to point it out, and then mentioned the plural later in my post.
I read it. It just wasn't well written.

You do not like how Greek scholars translate 2 Ti 3:16, so again, you'll pretend to be more of an expert in NT Greek than the centuries of scholars doing the English translations.
Your "centuries" of scholars were so brainwashed with Catholic and Anglican bias, not to mention the threat of death, even from your beloved Calvin, that not one soul had the courage to translate what's accurately written. AND NEITHER CAN YOU.

See what I mean?

Oh.. that's right. You can't.

I'll stay with the well established tradition
And be blind to the bitter end.

Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.
- Mark 7:13 KJV

Yes, I'm rambling, hoping a couple of shots of Evan Williams
Now I've lost all respect for you. Evan Williams is swill. At least have the decency to tip a Blanton's if you can't afford a Johnny Walker Blue. Of all the rot gut you could name....

the legend says the old Baptist preacher Elijah Craig stumbled upon how to make a whisky
And I'm sure you just love old Baptists legends who stumble.
