Quest
We searched for truth among the stones
And did not find it there
We looked for meaning in the stars
They did not seem to care
We strolled the shores in season
In hope of finding it
We took the paths both clear and dim
At noon and lantern lit
We read the books and manuscripts
No matter how obscure
We studied far into the night
Perused profane and pure
We stared into the microscopes
At things both strange and small
We catalogued all that we found
Until we saw it all
We took no man upon his word
But probed the very depth
We found no answers anywhere
And so we sat and wept
We cried in bitter loneliness
In fear of coming night
We stretched ourselves upon the sand
No truth was near to sight
But then with utter certainty
A still small voice within
Spoke words of sure eternity
So we began again
