Protesting to God

Then Moses went back to the LORD and protested, "Why have you brought all this trouble on your own people, Lord? Why did you send me? Ever since I came to Pharaoh as your spokesman, he has been even more brutal to your people. And you have done nothing to rescue them!" Exodus 5:22-23 NLT

Does it seem shocking to be read that Moses protested to God? Perhaps, but those protests didn’t change God’s composure. These outbursts proved that in voicing his displeasure, Moses showed that he was thinking about God’s role in his circumstances.

There was a time in Moses’ life when he heard God’s plan, obeyed God’s voice, and then failed. Hadn’t Moses done his best? Perhaps he believed Pharaoh would simply agree and the happy ending he hoped for would follow. Moses felt like his obedience simply meant things were harder for the people. He didn’t feel qualified to help, and his lack of success seemed to make that point clear.

God’s story for His family wasn’t over, but Moses needed to continue obeying. There would be celebrations that honored God’s deliverance through a man who seemed to challenge God.

Bring your honest questions to God. Seek His help in finding answers. Use your mind to seek God’s will in His Word for this moment.

Prayer: Father, I have always wondered if I could ask questions or say that the world is in a bad place and wonder if You’re there. May my questions lead to greater trust in Your best plan.
