Abraham was not required to perform any work, he only believed God.

[Genesis 17:4 KJV] "As for me, behold, my covenant [is] with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations."
[Genesis 17:9 KJV] "And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations."
[Genesis 17:10 KJV] "This [is] my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised." ******** Abraham is now a participant in this covenant, whereas before, it was unconditional, now Abraham must obey the command of the covenant
[Genesis 22:16 KJV] "And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only [son]:"
[Genesis 22:17 KJV] "That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which [is] upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;"
[Genesis 22:18 KJV] "And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice." ********* God swore by himself to multiply Abraham's seed. Abraham being obedient wasn't required to fulfill God's promise to multiply his seed. The blessing and promise of the seed and the land was realized by Abraham's obedience to God's command under their covenant relationship. This can be seen by this passage ******** [Genesis 18:19 KJV] "For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him."
