"PROFANE PAIN"
by Pastor Bob Coy

For the lips of an immoral woman drip honey, And her mouth is smoother than oil; But in the end she is bitter as wormwood, Sharp as a two-edged sword. Her feet go down to death, Her steps lay hold of hell. (Proverbs 5:3-5 NKJV)

We are strangely drawn to forbidden things, and the immoral woman described in Proverbs 5 is the perfect example of this declaration. This two-edged sword cuts both ways; for both men and women can have an immoral character; the emphasis isn't on gender but on immorality.

The Hebrew word here for "immoral" carries the connotation of something that is profane, which is the way God sees immorality. Unfortunately, we don't always share His perspective. Satan knows this and will do all he can to disguise sexual sin with deceit. He is also cunning enough to package the profane as something that seems to satisfy a need or want. Things might seem fine at first, but don't fail to notice that the steps of the immoral go down to hell and death.

As the one who sits behind the pastor's desk, I have personally seen the devastation, destruction, and death that immoral men and women leave in their wake. In practically every case, they chose to establish and nurture a relationship with someone outside of the marriage relationship. Had the relationship been avoided, then the sin never would have happened.

The Lord wants us to avoid this profane pain and, therefore, He pleads with us to never allow these types of relationships to take root in our hearts. He has made it clear that we need to be diligent in our duty to monitor the relationships we voluntarily invite in. This will keep our relationships pure and preserve our hearts for the relationship with the one whom the Lord has called us to love for lifetime.

But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints ---- (Ephesians 5:3 NKJV)

DIG - Read through Proverbs 5 and list five observations about the immoral woman.

DISCOVER - Are there any questionable relationships in your life? Ask the opinion of someone else who knows you well.

DISPLAY - Ask God to help you from being drawn to relationships that are forbidden.

God Bless,

I just want to thank God, for the brothers in Christ I have in my life. Who kept me in place and picked me up when I fall. I praise God for his loving kindness and tender mercy.

I want to thank God, for helping me to not fall into any traps. God is so Good he's surrounded me with Men and Women of God.

I pray that God would reveal this truth to my sister.
