Jesus knew that suffering awaited Him if He made His customary trip to Jerusalem, and so He turned to God the Father in prayer before beginning His journey. What could the Son of God receive in His darkest moment? The Father simply affirmed His love for the Son.
As you seek to imitate the journey of Jesus, taking up your own cross, counting the cost daily, and surrendering yourself to the plans of God for your life, perhaps you need to imagine yourself in this scene. You have taken up a costly journey, the future is unknown, and there may be plenty to fear. What would you imagine God the Father saying to you at this moment when turning away certainly feels much easier than pressing on?
How would you respond if you heard God the Father call out, “You are My beloved son!”? Whether you have failed or succeeded, the love of the Father is reaching out to you today. What if that is enough for the challenges you face today?
Prayer: Father, You adopted me into Your family and showed me the same love that You give to Jesus, Your Son. May I rest in the security of that love today.
