"To whom will he teach knowledge, and to whom will he explain the message? Those who are weaned from the milk, those taken from the breast? For it is precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little." Isaiah 28:9-10 ESV
As Ephraim is threatened with judgment over its pride and drunkenness, God offers hope to those who are faithful (His remnant) in the form of a crown of glory (Isaiah 28:5)—as opposed to those who are engaged in sin, who wear a crown of pride.
Bible commentator John Gill wrote that the crown of glory is God “surrounding, adorning, and protecting his people; granting them his presence; giving them his grace, and large measures of it; causing them to live soberly, righteously, and godly.”
As God’s people live in such a manner, He takes them deeper, weaning them from spiritual milk, one precept at a time. When you notice the Holy Spirit’s gentle nudges to drink from the Word, obey Him. This is evidence of God at work in you, and He wants you to have a deeper understanding of who He is and how you should live.
Spiritual growth occurs over a long period of time, usually a little at a time. Be faithful to study the scriptures line by line.
Prayer: Lord, teach me your ways precept by precept and line by line. I want to go deeper with You.
