Praying to God to know His Will?

Have you ever prayed to know God's will? You know, "Should I do this or should I do that?" All true Christians desire to be in God's will. So why is it so elusive and mysterious? Why doesn't He just tell us what He wants us to do? Or does He? After you pray to know God's will, perhaps you should read His "life instruction manual", commonly known as the Bible. Therein lie many passages where God's will for your life is plainly stated. Too easy you say, well not really. Most Christians spend countless hours seeking the finer points of God's will when the foundation is neatly packaged in their Bibles. Not that God doesn't speak to His children. Or not that the Holy Spirit can't lead and guide you in all your ways. But let's learn to walk before we try to run. Are you aware of the places in Scripture where it clearly states God's will for your life?

In Ephesians 5 we are told that God wants us to be filled with His Spirit. In First Thessalonians 4 God tells us to walk in purity and to avoid all immorality. In chapter 5 we are reminded to be thankful in every circumstance. Peter tells Christians in his first book and second chapter to live in peace with all people and to do good at all times. In chapter 3 he goes one step further by challenging us to rejoice when we suffer for doing good. And finally, back in Ephesians 1 we are instructed to pursue unity in Christ Jesus. Simple commands found in Scripture regarding God's will for our lives. Are your ready and willing to live them out? Will you make a commitment today to pour your effort into living out these Scriptures? As you do, you have the confidence to approach God knowing, according to First John 5:14, "that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us." Think about it. As we live within His will for our lives, He then hears and answers our prayers. God IS with us all...

Thank you for this post sister Shortlady, I'd like to state the plainly obvious and expand on your post. It's actually quite astounding if we look at it.

John 5:14 NKJV
14 Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you

1 John 5:14 NKJV
14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

The book of John is where Jesus said those words to a man at the pool of Bethesda. Jesus said with His own words what His will for that man's life was life, that he should stop sinning.

Furthermore, we can ask, we are allowed to.

The first thing I think of in light of what your post says is I am able to do the following:

Lord please help me to be filled with Your Spirit. I can ask for it.
Lord please help me to walk in purity and to avoid all immorality.
Lord please help me to be thankful in every circumstance.

The list goes on. We are able to ask God, to help us do His will, because it says He hears us if we ask according to His will.

God bless
Much love
Faithful Son
