Subject: - Request for Prayer.
Greetings from Pakistan
Interfaith Dialogue & Research Centre IDRC, based at Islamabad, is striving to promote interfaith harmony and sectarian unity in Pakistan. It makes efforts to enhance greater understanding between people of different faiths and religions through sustained dialogue and research. IDRC main objective is to protect and promote human rights especially rights of children, women and minorities.
Pakistan, the population of which is about 150 million, has a multi-religious society. Islam is the religion of 92 % people whereas 8 % belong to Christian, Hindu, Ahmedi and other faiths. The religio-political groups with their extremist views want to make Pakistan a theocratic state whereas the moderates want Pakistan to be a progressive, democratic and welfare Islamic country. The hard liners, religio-political extremist parties, sectarian strife and illiteracy are the impediments which are retarding this country in becoming a moderate and progressive state.
Religious extremism is on the rise in Pakistan. People, in general, are getting frustrated day by day. The society suffers from suffocation and the youth, being disillusioned, is leaning towards hardliner views. It has been observed that during the recent months the influence of hardliners has adversely affected the people at large.
So there is a great need to guide the youth in the right direction so that they are able to protect themselves from the fanatical indoctrination. The environment in Pakistan is very frightful by way of religious extremism which needs to be addressed.
We shall remain grateful members of the forum pray for the situation of Pakistan and for us, so that God Almighty may grant us strength and wisdom and we may become useful tools to bring about lasting peace in Pakistan through the promotion of interfaith harmony. In this regard we also want your suggestions and collaboration.
With profound regards and sentiments of high esteem,
Yours respectfully
