"James Charles Abner, 35, was shot shortly after he ran from a shed behind the home on Brodnax Road late Wednesday night and retreated to a wooded area.
The sheriff said deputies tried to persuade Abner to surrender but he ran out of the woods threatening to harm the deputies. One of the deputies fired, hitting Abner in the forearm.
The shooting occurred more than three hours after sheriff's deputies first went to the home Wednesday afternoon to respond to an assault against Abner's estranged wife and her stepfather.
Abner, the sheriff said, attacked his wife, then hit her stepfather in the head with a pistol and opened fire in the house. The bullet shattered the glass in the front door. Abner retreated outside, firing another round, which pierced an area beneath the front porch.
At first Abner escaped arrest, hiding from more than a dozen deputies searching around the home.
Byrd said the victims were taken to a safe place and when sheriff's deputies returned to the home late Wednesday night they found Abner hiding in a shed out back.
The shooting of Abner came minutes later."
This is from my local newspaper- The Sun Herald. I have worked with James the last year as a Navy contractor and he was always very troubled. Please pray for him as he is lost and now facing prison time. Also thank you to Barnabas, paganmystic and HeLovesYou on this site for your time listening tonight in the chat room.
